And the Cochin cuties!!! Already sold all of them! They were barely out of the Hatcher.
ended up hatching almost 60 chicks this weekend!

Just did a "clean out" for the chicks that are hatched. So far I've got 31/45 hatched out unassisted (including one that pipped in the pointy end), one pipped but died in the Shell. Not sure what happened, it wasn't shrink wrapped. Guess the hatched ones were too rough with it. I have 13 eggs left in the bator. 1 is pipped externally, 1 internally, the other 11 look ready with drawn down air cells. Hopefully they are ok. The hatched ones were incredibly rough on everything in there. My nerves couldn't take it any longer.

😂 I had a chicken that was prude for a whole year.
I have new soon to be hens, so I will be selling the experienced ones to the cries for laying bird, it is nicer than the canning jars they were heading for. Anyway, I am wondering if I should figure out who the prude is and charge more or less for her. " Oh she hates roosters, she is 2 dollars more.". Lol

I’d overcharge for any of my breeders right now. “You want my RSL, $50” 😂 she’s only stopped laying for 4 weeks all together in 2 years. And she is the most friendly bird I have. She even cocks her head like she’s listening to you. She’s like a therapist, But a mute one.

Had a weird feeling about some of the turkey eggs when I put them into lock down. I candled everyone a few minutes ago. Had a couple internally pipped, but 5 that still didn’t look right. Checked through the air cells, and they were for sure dead. Several still had yolks not absorbed. Two hopefuls in the middle of hatching now. My guess is power outage did it, but we plugged the generator in within an hour. Temp got down to maybe 75ish? Bummer!

I candled today, but forgot to report something weird. I use upright egg turners so I expect all the air cells to be on the blunt end and to be pretty centered. Well two of my barred rock eggs are off center. One edge is the center of the blunt end and other edge is half way to mid-egg. I thought it might be just one chicken, but the egg shade is not the same. Anyone have experience with chickens controlling where the egg sack forms? :caf
