May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

1 d'Uccle zipping and 1 pipped out of 4....I need sleep though - long day chasing cows, sorting cows, hauling cows. New chicken coop is on hold...hubby is thinking of dropping the farming side of life (just doing the ranching) and trying to clean up the farm place. He told me that it might take a year, but once some bins were torn down I could build an even bigger chicken coop (or 2 coops the size I was planning) and extend the day run.

I think I have a couple of internal pips this morning! Or close to it, at any rate. :wee

I work in field sales and will out of the house/on the road all day; hoping for signs of progress when I get home this afternoon. Final touches on the coop and fencing the yard are scheduled to begin today, too. Of course, now it's supposed to rain EVERY DAY for the next two weeks...Sigh. I don't think I'm ever going to get to bring my horses home at this rate.

I don't like to spike the humidity too much in my little cheap incubator, but I added a couple splashes of water just in case. Day 19 officially starts at noon today.

Today is day 19 and I know I’m supposed to stay out of the incubator but I really badly want to look for internal pips these guys have me so 😬 nervous. I swear I’m always a mess the last few days. Added a new green cheek conure hen to my indoor flock yesterday for my boy dragon. I hope they can adjust to each other soon and I can pull out their cage divider. Peter and Alex are not liking bachelor life but their gay relationship was freaking out my kids now that we know they are both males 🙄🤦🏼‍♀️So now I have them separated so when I get their girlfriends in they won’t still be so bonded to each other they won’t take notice. I moved momma psycho to a new permanent cage with her brood but she still seems confused as to where her babies are and so I may end up having to pull them early 🤷‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️Not how I wanted that to go but they are growing fast I’ll post a picture that shows the youngest as a newborn compared to his oldest sibling who is 5 days older and I’ll post the picture of them all last night the oldest is 10 days old right now and the youngest 5 days old. And I found one of them from when baby was one day old that shows all 4

I candled today, but forgot to report something weird. I use upright egg turners so I expect all the air cells to be on the blunt end and to be pretty centered. Well two of my barred rock eggs are off center. One edge is the center of the blunt end and other edge is half way to mid-egg. I thought it might be just one chicken, but the egg shade is not the same. Anyone have experience with chickens controlling where the egg sack forms? :caf

Keeping them upright doesn't necessarily prevent wonky air cells unless it's completely detached it may benefit from an upright turner so that if/when it does stabilize, the air cell will be closer to the correct position.

Oh my gosh little naked babies!

I woke up to a little Splash Marans already hatched in the incubator and 2 others that have been externally pipped since last night so I'm sure they won't be too far behind. Calendar says that tomorrow is hatch day. I don't have a clue but this little peeping baby I'm looking at says otherwise. LOL
