Females do the same with their neck feathers when they’re fight for rank in the pecking order.I look at comb size and color, waddle size and color, the tail and saddle feathers, and neck feathers. Also agressiveness. A cockerels comb and waddles will usually be bigger and a fuller color than the pullets. Cockerels will also have curved pointy saddle feathers where a pullets will be straighter and rounded. A cockerels neck feathers will also be more pointed than a pullets and when they challenge other chicks they will stand them up on end.
