May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

Well you probably did it, but you could do it now. It won't hurt to give them an extra turn. I took out my turners because one is on lockdown and the other has more eggs by a lot than it was made for--but my geese weren't sitting on theirs and they had thirteen--I had eleven already, so that makes twenty-four in an incubator that's supposed to hold seventeen goose eggs. I've just been turning them whenever I think about it as long as it's been a couple of hours. I don't think the hen sets up an alarm on her smart phone. :p

Right! No, I'm mostly just annoyed that I can't remember. One missed turn won't hurt!

It's been my experience that USPS is surprisingly easy to make claims with. That's a number of years ago when I was selling pottery on Etsy, so hopefully similar now. They also refunded postage if the entire order was destroyed. At that time the shipper could make a claim (or the recipient) but now I believe it has to be the recipient. It was really easy. I would get online, fill out the form and upload a photograph(s). They never refused one for me.

As soon as I get the box I will likely make a claim. I called the post office and have them waiting for it to make it there. But my box hasn’t moved or updated tracking information since 1:19 am on the 21.

USPS tracking isn't always accurate or reliable. It's often more of a delivery confirmation than real tracking. Many times I get no updates even tho it is moving.

I have quail eggs coming tomorrow from Myshire. I can't wait. I got the Scarlet/Range 25+ one.

I have 1 quail that has externally pipped, it hasn't done anything but I'm sure it'll be hatched tomorrow.

Nothing on the deathlayer crosses yet. I'm really hoping that a few of them are pullets.

My new coop comes Saturday so I really can't wait to add some pullets to it.

Just did my Day 7 candle. Out of 24 eggs I had 3 blood rings & 1 clear, so I tossed those. 13 eggs look like they are developing well, saw a lot of movement. The remaining 7 eggs looked ok, I didn't see a lot of development but they did have veins so I left them in.

All the air cells are messed up though, lots are still wobbly and most are saddle-shaped. One is more on the side of the egg. This will probably cause some hatching issues but I'm just happy that many of them are developing! :D

Quail, ducks, and chicken...
