May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Hopefully it's just someone forgot to push the button to update the tracking system...of all the shippers USPS seems to be the slowest at tracking (except maybe DHL, but nobody uses them anymore!).

So it's now a few hours to halfway through day 21...and the remaining 3 eggs in the incubator aren't doing anything. What's the official recommendation on how many days to wait on them? Should I check for internal pips once it's dark enough...?

And a few more fluffers just for fun:

I would give them to at least day 23. I have had quite a few wait until then to pip and hatch.

What cuties!!!
Well, I guess momma instinct woke me up (its almost 3 in the morning). Came to check on my hatch..a few more waiting to go into the brooder, so I tagged them and let them join the fun.
It seems cruel to have this bright heat lamp on the chicks at night- not that they are having trouble sleeping... LOL I have to keep tapping the brooder to make sure no one is dead- they are all asleep.- but I am surprised they give off so much light, I thought it would be more red, darker.
I will inspect everyone leg and body parts tomorrow. Does anyone here try and sex their chicks? cant be that hard, can it? Would be nice to learn how.....and be good at it.

Okay, its Lockdown day. I'm about to post 50 thumbnails (again). This is my second hatch and I'm trying to learn how to "see" things, so anything you spot is appreciated. My wife apologizes for the fuzzy pics.

16 and 20 are missing as they were clears, 42-52 had a cooler start, so are a little behind. Also, 42-50 are Jumbo eggs, so the chicks look small. :) 12 is/was a side sack, but to me, it looks dead. View attachment 2118058

On day 18 I'm expecting a blob like View attachment 2118051View attachment 2118052 and not expecting View attachment 2118075, but I'm not sure I know what I'm talking about. :)

They are all in the incubator and the humidity is dialed up, if it is dead I'd like to remove it "real quick".

Thanks in advance

I agree, 12 looks dead. Good luck with your hatch, hope you get lots of chicks! 🐣

Lockdown day for my incubator! I did a candling and saw movement in all the eggs. So far so good.....
lockdown daya.jpg Question for those of you w a Janoel 12...that rod that moved the egg rolling tray, so it's still sticking down there. Can't the chicks get poked running into it?

I've never had a chick get injured by that turning mechanism in there. Good luck with your hatch! 🤞

No, tracking hasn't updated since the day it was labeled "Shipment Received, Package Acceptance Pending" - the only other tracking info was previous to that that the tracking number was provided. And my post office delivers them to my farm (I told them to as there are not that many more miles in the air conditioned/heated postal car than there would be in my own car...and I trust my mail carrier and the sub to be careful with them - I just can't make a 30 minute drive to town to get packages every time eggs come in.) I am also good friends with the post master and I know that she would call me if they were there at the post office.
Oh ok well this little tidbit of information was left out of your other posts

Good morning! I missed a good bit of posts again. I'm really bad about reading through them when there are multiple pages, lol. :lau

Yesterday my daughter and I went to help a friend sex what I'm pretty confident was over 100 chickens of varying ages. Once we got to the youngest pen that I was able to pull out the early developing roosters but I was feeling really unsure about one in particular...my daughter of course fell in love with it and my friend gave her the chick as a thank you....so I probably have a 4 week old rooster now. LOL 🐔

I also picked up 5 Turkey hatching eggs on our way home...I haven't set them in the incubator yet because 3 of 5 are poopy and I don't want to set them with my peacock eggs. Decisions, decisions...Should I turn on another incubator and just hand turn them? Or should I attempt to wash them? I've never been big on washing hatching eggs but I really don't want to contaminate my already developing peachicks.
