May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

Brahma two has now gone proper broody with no 5 hour lapses so ive sat her on fresh eggs as i doubt the ones sshe kept leaving were viable.
Question, can i pen two broodies together? I just dont have enough room to build a seperate area for the second.
You can but once their chicks hatch, you might have to separate so they're not fighting over chicks which sometimes ends up with chicks dying due to roughness.

Day 17 here, lockdown and final candling tomorrow! 7 eggs left out of 10 we put in. Tomorrow we will see if they’re all still good to go. I have my eyes set on some CCL, whiting true blue and Ameraucana eggs (and bantam Ameraucana too!)....so these little OE’s need to hatch and move to the brooder so I can reload! Slow shipping means my new much bigger incubator hasn’t arrived yet 👎🏻

I put 5 in the brooder last night. They were getting rowdy, some being 1 1/2 days old. There were 3 pipped eggs in incubator that had been like that all day. One hatched overnight and one just now. These would be on day 22.
Here are some of them learning to use the nipple bottles, I think they all can do it now.

Ive just realised the two brahma girls are hatched from LAST Mays hatch along, im surprised they went broody this year as they are slow to mature, still, the continuity is nice :)

edit* in fact i believe its them on my profile pic

I haven't even had a broody yet 😑 I've had my flock for two years and not one has gone broody. I think they like me hatching the eggs and they don't have to do any work.

My flock are 1 and two year olds. The two year olds are all hybrid rangers, good layers but have shown zero interest in going broody, I had heard brahmas make good broodies and now they have proved it true. i wish i had kept more but i had a brilliant ratio on the hatch and sold 4 sets of trios :(

I have Cochins and Bantam Brahmas. The bantam Brahmas are new though. The Cochins are almost 2 years old.

Same mom and dad, but different colors. Why does genetics love to toy with me 😂 The yellow one has very light silver in it as well. I love crossing breeds. These are deathlayer and golden laced polish cross 🤓 They went into the brooder to dry because I don't like drying in the bator, it takes an eternity.
