May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

Some fresh chickies! I got... 14 I think? (these plus 2 more) With 6 eggs to go.

Looks like a few is my faverolles mix roo's. (the darkest ones). I also had an Orpington mix roo, he produces white/lemon and yellow.

Day 22.....still only one pipped out of 7. The hole is much bigger this morning and we can see the beak and feathers at times and hear cheeping. All other eggs are quiet. Since my temps were on the low side during incubation, I will continue to wait. If this is the only guy to survive and make it out, I will buy two other day olds from someone so he can have a couple buddies, and then hope for better luck next time. This is my first time hatching and I’ve learned a ton. I’m hoping a couple more make it out.

My Peachick hatch isn't going without a hitch. One chick started to zip while the other two had not so I decided to do a safety hole on the second egg that was definitely internally pipped and the 3rd egg with the sideways air cell had already passed, I wasn't surprised by this, but still bummed. So the first Peachick is peeping up a storm in the brooder and the second Peachick is still absorbing blood vessels. Just hoping I have 2 healthy babies so they're not lonely because I don't expect more chicks to hatch until next week!

Are you keeping them

Are you keeping them

I can't long term because I'm in a neighborhood but I keep Peachicks a bit longer than other chicks because I want to make sure they're healthy before rehoming. I keep chicks for 2-3 days but peachicks I might keep for 1-2 weeks to make sure they're in tip top shape. I do have a couple friends that breed and hatch peachicks, so worst case I can check to see if they have any newly hatched babies.
