May 2020 Hatch-A-Long

So on the millie's, do you know if they breed true. I just hatched out some of the golden neck d'uccles and half of them have the mille look. My neighbor gave them to me and told me that the golden necks didn't breed true, was just wondering if that is the same for the milles.

I'm not positive because I'm new to D'uccles myself but the breeder said that it's always a surprise so I think it's typical to see multiple colors in a hatch.
Is her flock 100% golden neck?

I think so, but I'm not sure where he got them to start with. I figure if I get at least one little rooster and a few hens (hatched 7) I can try them out next year. I'm always up for a great surprise. :ya

First sebright chickie! These guys are -so- noisy. Haha. I had to hold this one for like half an hour after it hatched because it just screamed and screamed... the other one that I’m waiting on in the bator peeps constantly, and escalates when it hears me coming in the room. Haha. One DIS so far, not sure what happened to that one but it hasn’t absorbed its yolk and it just seemed odd so.. 🤷🏼‍♀️ The last hadn’t pipped internally and had become sluggish when I candled so I opened up a safety hole/investigation portal haha in the end, and the poor little thing was blue and gasping. It has its legs over its head and it’s head twisted so the top is towards the air cell. No way that was going to pip properly so I made it a breathing hole - we’ll see if that one survives. I’ve had very bad luck with local eggs for some reason... but this cutie is 100% worth the stress of hatching. Haha.

Just saw the craziest thing ever...

I was wondering why a certain chick couldn’t get out when it was good to go. So I looked and it’s intestines and liver were wrapped around it’s neck strangling it 🤯 I quickly went to action and freed it then I had to carefully put everything back into place. I’m not sure if it’ll live. It’s head is swollen from the pressure of being strangled. It honestly looks like a bobble head because of it.

I couldn’t get pics because it wasn’t pic time when I saw that. It was close to ripping all its insides completely out or dying from lack of oxygen.

It was like when a baby has the umbilical cord wrapped around it’s neck.

I used my handy dandy knitting needle, qtips, and triple antibiotic ointment. These 3 things always save the day!

I will be keeping this chick and not selling it because if it continues to thrive, I owe it the pleasure of living at Fort Cluck.
How's she doing? Nevermind... I just saw that Bobbles is doing well. :)
