May 2022 hatch along

Thanks. So hopefully it means good things.
I hope so! I have some quail eggs incubating and they are impossible to candle…I have one egg that’s rather easy to see into out of 8 eggs…so I am hoping that since it’s developing others are too 🙃 17 day commitment that may result in one chick haha. Guess we will see! At least they’re home grown eggs, better chances! After hatching chickens the quail eggs seem so freaking tiny! 😆

So I gave the broody 8 eggs this morning. I pulled 13 out from under her. And I have 1 maybe 2 more broodies🤦‍♀️. Not sure how I’m going to deal with that yet...
I’m having broody problems too. All 3 of my bantam Cochins went broody together during a week I was really sick and couldn’t collect eggs. I candled them last night and they managed to squirrel away 6 that are developing 😵‍💫 I already have 30 eggs in the incubator 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Day 2 on some of the eggs,

I have the eggs in two incubators, the above eggs are good and are fertile
the below eggs, I don't know yet, but will put them in the above incubator, if they are developing.

My 5 month old rooster was hopping up and down on a 5 month old hen, I hope he has been doing that to adult hens.

Your Crevecoeur: are they all black? We have some(50), great layers(they) are the egg loaf girls, we were sold black & white. What color are yours? Thanks for great posts. Help me not be frustrated

All black. Though I have been eying up Greenfire Farms Crevecoeur import with the new colors. But those are not SOP and on the critical list, so I am undecided.

My sisters kids call them bed heads they laugh as they watch them walk around

Candled all my May eggs! I set 18 d’Anver eggs three days ago that were shipped to me from Fresno…and all the fertile eggs are developing. 16 of the 18 were fertile. I would not be surprised if 4 of them quit early based on how they looked, but the other 12 look pretty solid!

My Olandsk Dwarf eggs go into lockdown tomorrow! I saw movement and very strong veins in all 12 eggs, so I’m hoping this means they will make it to hatch day. I will be interested in seeing if I mislabeled an egg or two…and got some surprise mixed chickens 😆 I have one rooster in with the OD hens, a Mille Fleur d’Uccle hen, a bantam Brahma hen, two silkie hens, and a Swedish Hedemora hen. All their eggs look sort of similar and a couple of these eggs are a bit larger than I expect from my ODs…so I guess we will see on Monday! 😁

And I decided to try candling my quail eggs with a candler that isn’t the NR360 light, and finally could see the air cells and obvious clears. So of the 8 eggs I set, 6 looked good! I’m gonna have baby chicks coming out of my ears pretty soon 😵‍💫😆

Ack!! :-( I’m so sad 😞 I just discovered my incubator got unplugged somehow and the temp was down to 81 and 52% humidity. It probably was off for at least 2 hours. All my baby d’Anver eggs 😩 Do you think they’re all okay??

Just keep 'em going. If there was a really weak embryo, it might have problems, but I'd bet they'll still be okay.

So far so good with my hatch. I was wrong about the number of eggs developing in my incubator; looks like at least 5 out of 7. The veining is not great though so we’ll see what happens. The broodies still have 8 eggs and they are doing fine. Day 12 here so looking forward to a hatch on May 9.
