May 2022 hatch along

The blue eggs were pretty easy to candle.
I’ve been finding the blue eggs tricky to candle, I’ve pulled out the clear ones but the others I can’t really see what’s going on.

I pulled out 3 more ameraucanas today. 2 clears and one quitter. There are 9 of those left. I had one buckeye quitter but the 11 remaining look good so far. I can’t see anything yet on the Marans. I also added a dozen quail eggs. This is is the goofiest hatch I’ve ever done… it’s like musical incubator lol

The quitters make me sad. They got started, but something not right to keep going. Even though I still have 19 eggs still viable, I'm anxious that something catastrophic will happen.

First hatch is nerve racking for sure. I’ve been hatching for years but last month I tried out a new (to me) incubator and it brought back some of that feeling from when I first started… like something could just go off and spoil the whole thing. Hatching can be risky business but if hopefully yours will come off without too many issues!

What are you using to candle?
Oh that looks cool! I have a really high lumen flashlight, 1500 I think. It usually works pretty well but I do like the nice rim on the one you linked. Mine has a scalloped rim ( I think meant to be able to break glass in case of emergency 😱) so I Have a paper rim taped on there which is less than ideal.

I will join this one and hopefully all continue to develop so I don't have to drop out. I am hatching 3 of my own BBS cochin eggs and 8 shipped BBS cochin eggs. I have 5 in the incubator and 6 under my broody (they are her eggs) I am on Day 4 with a hatch date of May 10 (I think that is the right day). I can see in the light tan really well. kinda see in the light brown eggs. but can't see in the darker brown eggs so not sure what is going on with those eggs............
