May 2023 Hatch-a-long

So jealous. I would love a 2nd incubator, but seeing that I am expanding my run and adding a coop and my husband is already shocked when there are more eggs in the incubator I do have I think I should just stick with one. lol
My excuse was that I needed a backup in case the first one broke, and also needed one for any chick that needs immediate isolation after a hatch while drying off. 🤣

My first ever hatch, I ordered 15 Bresse eggs from one breeder, and 10 Wyandottes from another (assumed a couple might break in transit) The Bresse guy sent me 20 eggs. My incubator only holds 24…the obvious solution was to buy a second incubator lol. So I have two Borotto Real 24, one with automatic turning and one without(a little cheaper). Really great hatch rates overall. They were a good team for all the staggered hatches I had this season, because I used the one without turning as a hatcher.

Yeah, I need another incubator too. Or three or four. And a 12-egger is just not big enough, lol!

Hub said ok for two reasons. 1. It was a “business investment” (I couldn’t keep up with chick sales) and 2. I found a $50 unused amazon card in an old purse so it was muuuch cheaper.

Check all those old bags, ladies! You might find something good! 😂

Same 😩 somebody let me hatch ducks for you!!
I’ve been waiting and waiting for someone to ask me to hatch ducks for them but I finally caved and got eggs for myself.

98 eggs went in yesterday for a May 15th hatch. These are from some folks I hatched for last year who tipped me with a bunch of eggs from which I hatched my naked necks 😀

I went to town today, at the store I got eggs from 3 local farms. I candled all, these are the eggs that looked good to hatch, +one of my hen's eggs.

Dark brown, spotted, med. brown, tan, blue and green.
My hens egg was one of the blue.
Just so I know for future possibilities, did you buy regular eggs at the store from local farms intended for eating and candle them and are now going to try to hatch the ones that looked viable?
