May 2023 Hatch-a-long

I’ve been waiting and waiting for someone to ask me to hatch ducks for them but I finally caved and got eggs for myself.

98 eggs went in yesterday for a May 15th hatch. These are from some folks I hatched for last year who tipped me with a bunch of eggs from which I hatched my naked necks View attachment 3481042View attachment 3481043View attachment 3481049

My excuse was that I needed a backup in case the first one broke, and also needed one for any chick that needs immediate isolation after a hatch while drying off.

Trying to convince the school they need a school incubator for the class so I don’t “have to use my personal one” but really we need two. We will see!

Unfortunate update for the bra egg: I sprained my ankle pretty badly yesterday and am now on crutches. Have been trying to stay still but my suspicion is that I’ve scrambled the poor thing with having to swing around on crutches. Will be candling tomorrow to see if there’s any noticeable development. If so, I’m going to put it in the incubator as a double up and candle again in a week :/ hate to stop the experiment but ain’t no way I can avoid shaking it right now.

Just so I know for future possibilities, did you buy regular eggs at the store from local farms intended for eating and candle them and are now going to try to hatch the ones that looked viable?

I have hatched eggs from all 3 farms recently.

I am shocked but bra egg is alive! Can’t upload a video for some reason so here’s a screenshot. I could see the heartbeat. Holy crow! It is in the incubator now. I 100% expected scrambled eggs

I'm so sorry to hear you're hurt. I hope you have a quick recovery and I hope your little egg is still ok. Looking forward to hearing your candling news.

Well that is some good news. A bummer you can’t continue your experiment but fascinating you got it that far and it survived a shaking.
