May 2023 Hatch-a-long

Pics
My two shipped eggs from my April hatch (in with my May eggs) hatched. Both seem to be doing well. One had to be assisted on the zip as it was shrink wrapping. It’s tiny!
Candled my BBS Marans eggs tonight and all 10 are looking good! Lockdown on Thursday. Then I’m done….even my 13 year old told me ‘no more’ lol
Woohoo on the babies. Lol on the 13 yr old saying no more.

Ok I need to figure out what to do. My eggs in the incubator go into lockdown on Mon and are due to hatch on Thurs. Last time they hatched on day 19/20.

The lady that has crested cream legbars is going to be near me tomorrow so is bringing eggs for me. Do I start them in the incubator where humidity will be higher on days 2-5 for them and they will get bounced around? Or do I give them to my broody that hatched and raised chicks last year and hope that they are fine......
Can you put them behind your divider in their own section during hatch so they don’t get jostled too much? Do you have a plan to turn them?

I would definitely not turn down Legbar eggs….you need the blue eggs!

I’ll be joining this HAL on Tue when I set more eggs. Hub surprised me with ANOTHER kebonnix for my classroom (will be doing a small hatch there), so 12, another 12 in the other kebonnix, and 26-28 stacked in the 360. My coworker is hatching with her class too, and we are swapping some eggs. She is giving me 6 Silkie eggs, and my son is THRILLED! (We are keeping those to hatch at home, the school chicks going with my student teacher, and the rest at home to a customer.) My current batch is due Sun. So one day to clean & prep. I can set Wed if there are any late hatches.

Can you not wait a few days? The eggs will still be viable.

I was thinking of the divider but I have 11 eggs hatching for the other guy. Then I only have 5 but got them to see if one is a lav split so if I am not home and miss them hatching if one is then if in same divider I won't know which one it is...... Either way I am not passing them up. Lol. Wish I could get my girl to graft to the plastic nest box I have in the coop that no one uses, but she won't..... And if I block her off then she breaks.

We are going away on the 26th.... So if my eggs don't hatch till Thurs, day 21, by the time I clean it and set the new ones hatch day would be the day we go away..... Lol

Depending on how many I get I may put a couple in the incubator and some under my broody.

I am going to try to give my other broody one egg on Mon to hatch and see how that goes, if that goes well then I will give her the others after they hatch. Then I will feel better about giving the other broody the CCL eggs ...

You could always use the broody to get them started and then transfer them into the incubator when it's free if you're not confident about leaving them with her.
