May 2023 Hatch-a-long

Had another hatch, making the count 17. However one had something large and bloody sticking out of its navel (intestine?) I tried to push it back in, and after 3 hours it was still bleeding all over, so I had to do my first cull. 😞 I don’t think it is responsible to hatch if you can’t cull a deformaty as needed, and it was super difficult but I am proud of myself that the poor thing won’t suffer. Poor little one.

It’s been a rough hatch this time around…

Oh I am so sorry to read this! 😞

So interesting situation here. Rainbow apparently didn’t like the first Pip and has made a second one?? Has anybody had this one? It’s not a zipper. Two distinct pips. @Honora youve got a strange one here haha

Also Martini pipped! And so did Christmas tree. Yay @junior67

Well, THIS is a surprise! LOL! Was just turning the eggs and started reaching for one and just... stopped. I blinked a few times before it registered that one of the chicken eggs I'd salvaged from the muck and was still covered in dirt was hatching!!! I can't even remember when I put it in there!

So, here's a lesson for us: turning eggs when they should be in lockdown doesn't stop them from hatching!
