~May 4th Hatch~ Whose With Me~~!PICS!~

Oh such great news!! Those babies are adorable!!

I'm on day 19 and not even one pip? Honestly.. the conditions are optimal and super steady. The paranoia is starting to sneak even... did something happen? Was there a temp flux? why isn't anybody coming out??

if there aren't any pips by tomorrow night I'm changing my handle to 'eggkiller'.

Happy "Cinco de Mayo" !!!

Today is Day 21 (actually starts this evening, I guess... since I put the eggs in late on April 14).

Anyway, I had an early hatcher on May 3rd, and have moved that chick into the brooder box. Chick #2 hatched out last night, and is still in the 'bator. I can also see pips in two more eggs, so there are more on the way. I hope the others get a move on and start pipping, as well. The "early bird" is lonely for company!

Finally figured out how to add pictures.

Here's my story. After interesting temps over the weekend, I had nothing on Day 20 when I went home from school. I had 1 chick and a couple pips the next morning (day 21). By the end of yesterday I had 4 chicks and a handful of pips. (moved 3 into the brooder)

Today I arrived to an incubator full and the custodian had been kind enough to move some to the brooder to give them more room to hatch. I have 15 chicks!

All we can do today is watch them! Nothing productive is going to get done!

I would have taken more pictures but my camera ran out of batteries...more tomorrow when I bring some!

My own update: I just moved the new chick (#2) into the brooder to keep the "early bird" company. I was able to see the remaining eggs better, and rolled a few over to check for hidden pips. Sure enough, I found 4 more pips that I couldn't see before. That makes 6 pips in the 'bator right now! Hopefully, they will all get motivated for an exciting race to the finish...

For those of you who are moving chicks to the brooder - do you have a still air incubator? Right now I have 10 chicks hatched out and several that are pipping. The 10 that are hatched are dry and eiter picking at the ones that haven't hatched or jumping all over them. I've debated moving them to the brooder but have read mixed reviews about opening the incubator. The first one hatched fully around 10 yesterday so it has just now been 24 hrs. Any thoughts?

I'm using a LG still air incubator and have 22 eggs left in to hatch. My temps have stayed fairly consistant but I've had a difficult time w/humidity.

I do have a still air. I left the first batch in for a while (I think it also encourages the others...) then put the brooder close and quick moved them. You can also take that opportunity to add more water to the trays at the bottom or moisten your sponges to get the humidity back up. My chicks were getting very active and I decided the risks of opening did not outway the problems if they were left in.

But it's a personal decision, there is some risk if the humidity drops too much.

Good luck!
