With my chicks, I brood them in a wire rabbit type cage for the first 4 or so weeks. The droppings fall into a metal pan and I just dump them out and rinse out the pan. Then they get moved outside to a wire cage. I slide the cage to another spot each day, this way they get fresh grass etc.

Now I won't get anything else done....LOL!!!

Well, the fourth one to pip is the first one out--hatch time 1 hour 10 minutes. The first one to pip last night still hasn't made much progress, but as soon as the little hatcher came out, he started going at it again.
Two others look to be almost there.

I still can't believe this actually worked!

My borrowed bator has been around a while and the windows are a bit scratchy--pics aren't that great, but here is the first one from pip to hatch.

Aw, don't fret! I'm sure it just had something electrical wrong and it was a good thing you were there when it happened!! I don't think it had anything to do with your candling.

This is my first hatch and I had been stressing the whole time, but now I can see that there really isn't anything to stress over. So I hope my next time around I can enjoy it more. Even if I only get these three chicks, I am happy with my hatch! What the heck will I do with 39 chicks anyway?

I had temp spikes up to 104 and very low humidity at times, and it didn't seem to hurt 'em. I was freaking until someone posted the other night about spikes up to 109 and still getting a good hatch and it made me feel better. I love this place!!!

Is it okay to post here even if my eggs aren't due to hatch till June 2/3? I figured they will go through most of their incubation in May

Anyway, I set 24 Blue/Black/Splash STD Cochin eggs last night. This is my second run...my first one didn't go so well...started with 19, 16 were fertile, went down to 5, then 4, then none of them made it

Here's hoping that this batch does better
