MAY HATCH-A-LONG come join in

Aaaak! One of my guys looks like he wasn't fully developed. When it was born it had a bump on his butt. Now that he is completely out of the shell and walking around the bump has come completely out. There is blood all over the bator. What do I do if he dies? Just leave him in there? Will the other birds start to eat him?

I'm so upset!!!

That is one beautiful hatch of blue orps. My Wheeler is a beautiful rooster who throws some awesome chicks. Look how big they are! Congrats! Your daughter looks very pleased - and very cute!!

I'm no the most experienced hatcher but maybe it was the umbilical cord? Is it still alive? If so you need to separate it otherwise the other chicks WILL peck at it and end up killing it.

Yes, he's still alive. Great, so there's hope!

So far I have 10 hatched/born out of 38. I am so excited!

I have 8 Ameraucaunas and 2 EE.

None of my BCMs have piped, but day 21 is not until tomorrow and they were actually put in 12 hours after the Ameraucaunas as were some of the EEs. So we still have plenty of time to continue with the hatchings. I have spent all day justa

I've got little swimmers all over the place! I re-candled all my suspect eggs and pulled them out and while I was at it, candled the rest of them. I could see lots of movement from most of them!
wee.gif
In a few, I could see the dark spot where the chick is supposed to be but no movement so I'm assuming they're sleeping?

Those spots are the same size as the wiggly spots so that's my best guess.
The 5 suspect eggs...4 were liquefied. I had them marked the day they arrived here because the air cell had become detached during shipping. One egg from another shipment wasn't showing any growth and when I cracked it open, it had a very faint blood ring. Nothing else. I was so

thinking about cracking these eggs open but I'm actually very glad I did. Gross but a learning experience, nonetheless.

chickenonthehill- LOL yes she does love her picture taken, and especially when she gets to hold the chicks!

MissPrissy- Oh I think so too, I couldnt be happier! I certainly hope there is a little Wheeler Jr. in there somewhere! I have another batch from a different line under my broody hen Big Mama, right now. The hope is to get a Wheeler Jr. from this batch of yours and have him with the other line and visa versa. Crossing my fingers:fl I must admit, i havent seen a more fluffy fat bunch, than these chicks, that and they are so laid back. I've never seen chicks stretch their legs out and lay on their side to relax before, it's quite comical. The one Splash chick is so chubby fluffy, it reminds me of those cosmetic puffs, all i would have to add is a bow on its head, and viola! LOL:lau All in all, i am very pleased with them...thanks Prissy!
