MAY HATCH-A-LONG come join in

Hi Savethefavs,

Update, I have now 5 beautiful faverolles chicks. One more just started pipping (day 23). I still have 5 more eggs, hopefully they will hatch.
I will post pictures when they are all out.
They are really pretty with their beards and all 5 toes.

You saw that huh? hehe

I couldn't even afford those, but at that price how could I not?

All the eggs I've hatched this year were from BYCers and they were packed great. The last batch I picked up from the PO I figure was tossed around. Packaging was great, but one egg was smashed. I figure since is was there for so long they must have moved it ariund or something. These were my Buff Laced Polish too

I have a Buff Laced roo I was trying to get a harem for. LOL

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. I'm felling kind of lost right now. It's not just me either. We were a 5 gen family up until last month. My mom was a wonderful grandmother. I have one serviving sister and 2 brothers on my mom's side and 2 sisters and 2 brothers on my dad's side. I didn't know my dad that long, but I knew him pretty well. I'm really worried about my sister and brother out here. They're a mess.

My mom and I talked chickens a lot. I told her about this site and she was happy I found people with the same addiction.

Enough of that. I love my little EEs! The 3rd to hatch was a little yellow one with a buff collar. He was trying to walk and flopping over the eggs and at one point reminded me of Big Bird.....soooo he has a name. LOL

I can't wait to see how these little guys turn out. My Marans and my beautiful Blue Ameraucana are so big now that it's amazing thwy were ever this small. They hatched April 24, so going on a month old. I have 9 eggs due tomorrow, but I think i have some clear ones. Not sure and since I thought one of my Marans eggs was clear and it hatched I figured I better just lock them all down. Next hatch date is the 28th. Those are the Buff Laced. Who knows, maybe something will happen.

I do have some of the eggs from my flock set and hatch dates are the 1st and 6th of June. I have my EE roo over BR and I also have several Games. I decided today to stop collecting to hatch until I see what I get out of these. I was thinking I may breed some of the EExBR chicks to my BLPolish and see what I get, but that's a long way off.

I need BLP hens, but I can't find any around that look decent. Maybe some miracle will happen and I'll find some at the auction on monday. I live 2 1/2 SHORT blocks to our poultry auction. So far I haven't seen any there for about 3 months. I should have bought them.

I made some earring and a chocker for one of the ladies I talk to there, so deliver, pick up money and spend it there. Wow.....thats kind of sad huh? LOL

I can't wait to get these Wellies though. I had 2 before and they are some of our very favorites. I think the hens are some of the prettiest around. Never have had a roo and from what I'm hatching out this year I bet I get at least one. Went from owning all hens and it's looking like a men's only resort here.

Do to technical difficulties I haven't posted a single pic on here. I will when I'm able, but in the meantime I want to see more pics from all of you. I would really like to see some of those Favs!

Hubby asked today when I was going to stop all the hatching. ???? I just got the sportsman and we drove to the guy's house together. I'm married to a crazy man. STOP?? Yeah right!

So my thoughts are hatching out some chicks and selling, but I have 4 feed stores nearby with tons of BR and RIR and I know those sell well around here. I need some suggestions on some breeds to get eggs from.

Any thoughts??

I candled 4 eggs tonight then I got tired of fighting her off the nest. One was never fertile so I took it out. The others looked right compaired to pictures here. I didn't look them over first and I thought I heard a cracking sound on one when I turned it over it had a small part of the shell missing and a crack. It felt very brittle. It looked right when I candled it but the membrain wasn't broken yet. Could that be right? Do they sometimes crack the shell but not the membrane?

They have to get thru the membrane to get to the shell. Be careful not to get the eggs out of the position that the chicks have set themselves up for. That's a good broody you have to fight for position, how lucky, I don't have one yet. For right now, may I say.............................walk away from the eggs & let nature take it's course. Oh yeah, and please post pics when they hatch, looking forward to hearing about it all.

That's great! Fingers crossed for the other 5. Beards & 5 toes, very good signs. They're LF's (Standards) I assume. I had 4 LF Favs layers, they were great, but didn't fit my bantam nest boxes well, so were rehomed. Enjoy!

*I have 4 eggs in the bator now, due on May 28th. Until then, here's a pic of my March hatch of Bantam Blue Salmon/Salmon Faverolles, well at least a current pic of the 2 bearded ladies (Ginette & Giselle). The other 5 chicks were all cockerels. Happy hatching everyone!

This is probably the roo that these 2 girls will be with, 'Pepe Le Peu' a Bantam Salmon Faverolles

wolftracks: I have the best luck with selling my hatches at around 2-3 months old in pairs, trios or quads (a rooster is part of the group always). People don't seem to care what types they are (the one's I sell that way are usually bantam crosses) when they know they're raised organic, are weather & coop ready, are very friendly/handleable & only have a few months to laying while settling in. Have you tried an ad on craigslist.org?

We are hatching!!! I decided to go down to take a peek into the bator to see if there were any pips.... and I found a tray FULL of fluffy chicks!!! Didn't get a final headcount, but there are a lot already out and several more pipping and zipping. I hated to open the bator but me and DH did it very quickly to get out the fully dry chicks and get them into a brooder and take out some of the empty shells to give the remaining chicks some room! I'll update with pics hopefully tomorrow!!!

This is actually what I was hoping to do. My problem right now is getting pullets enough to do it.

EEs sell like crazy at our local auction. Some days prices are pretty low and others they go for quit a lot

I have some people that are waiting for me to build my flock so they can buy from me, but I have never had such bad hatches as I have this month.

I'm not feeling sorry for myself I just can't figure out whats going on. I'm usually good at this. I'm thinking that because these last 3 batches of eggs had to be picked up at the PO they were not handled very well by whoever was there when they were dropped back off. Also my usual carrier is a sweetheart and is so careful with my deliveries and someone else had her route for 2 of those deliveries.

The counter people are usually so nice and always ask what type of eggs I have. Matter of fact I'm supposed to show one of them the chicks. Her husband is trying to talk her into chickens and she asks me questions whenever I'm there.

I haven't seen much of anything on craigslist lately near me, but I did find my Sportsman there

They were $150 each and he held one while I was in Oklahoma at my dad's funeral. He couldn't find the racks for mine, so he knocked off another 50 bucks.....................SCORE!
Needs new heating element and I have a place to pick up the shelves, so I'll be running it by the first week of next month.

OHHHHH..........my feed store had a bantam roo tonight when I picked up more starter. I'm going to find out what he is and how much in the morning. I kept looking at him from a distance, he was so pretty. Oh and I met a guy last year who has his Seramas in breed books. I may have to get his # out of my glove compartment! Told me he only sells started birds in trios or quads.

Thanks for getting my mind back on track. I completely forgot about him.

Fav! You saved me!
