We’re officially at Day 21.
No signs of any pips yet. I took advantage of the opportunity and lifted the lid to check the progress. I put my candler next to one of my white Leghorn eggs without moving it and there’s still some action going on inside! *whew!* The other shells were too dark to see much but I could tell the aircells we’re finally about perfect, which makes me super happy. Threw in a cut up wet sponge in a small dish to bump up the humidity since my air cells are good now.

Now to sit

Still nothing. No rocking, no chirping, no pips....

I hate to say it but I’m starting to worry. It seems everyone else is seeing or hearing some action at this point in their hatch. I hope my babies are ok.

Now The Husband is getting on to me for “doubting” and “second guessing” myself line I “always do”.

He said if there’s still something moving in the Leghorn egg (there is) they’re FINE and LEAVE ‘EM BE.

Still nothing. No rocking, no chirping, no pips....

I hate to say it but I’m starting to worry. It seems everyone else is seeing or hearing some action at this point in their hatch. I hope my babies are ok.

Sigh...this is maddening

What day are they on? If they're past 21 you could always do a float test. Place them in warm water, wait for the water to settle and if they move there's still something living inside.

Well technically I guess today is exactly 21 days. I set them late afternoon on March 25th so.... I confess I’m just very impatient and nervous bc this is my first hatch that’s made it this far. My first incubator was a cheap disaster and fried my eggs.
It still seems a bit surreal that something is hopefully, maybe, going to come out of those eggs, living and unique (VERY unique...these are quite the backyard mix).

I just need to be patient I guess. My temps seem to have been steady in the 37.5c range, humidity was iffy at first with all the spring rain we’ve been having. But I stuck my candler on the eggs yesterday and all the air sacs seemed pretty ok.

We’re braving the rain now and driving to Oregon to battle the Sunday Costco crowds.Maybe this is a case of “a watched pot never boils” and I’ll come home to some chirps and/or pips.

Ok update time!
Good and bad news. Bad news first...I’m pretty sure I lost one egg. Good news is the rest still look viable. I had a gut feeling and decided to candle them after I made sure none had pipped. One egg it looked like the blood vessels had dissolved and I couldn’t see any for sure movement, just a dark blob. There’s no smell coming from it so I put it back, in case I’m wrong.

But there was definitely life still in the other 5. One egg is actually rocking in the bator now! It’s small, but there’s definitely movement. This is getting egg-citing!

I actually think it's better to not be around when they hatch.... it would drive me nuts impatiently waiting.

Oh lord I’d go insane worrying about something going wrong if I couldn’t be here when they hatch.
