May hatch-a-long

Pics
10 chicks have hatched. 2 more pips. 3 that look perfect just a little behind.

Sadly there are 7 eggs I've just about given up on. There was an issue at lockdown with the thermometer. The incubator over heated briefly and I think these eggs we're in the "hot spot". They eggs candled oddly from then on. It's a big disappointment but the healthy hatchers are a good distraction. Super cute chicks.

I just fired up the hatcher.... lock down isn't supposed to be till tomorrow for this upcoming weeks hatch, but I think I will go early so I can set my next batch in the bator tonight. I have almost 2 dozen waiting to go in.... lol
I am excited the last 2 batches of turkeys have gone well.

Hmm... decisions. It's only four days since I put 22 Serama eggs in, but I just noticed an unpleasant odor when I opened the incubator. Tracked it down to one egg, which smells... dead. It's not a sulfur smell, it's what I would expect to smell if I found a dead, rotting animal. However, the egg candles completely clear - no sign of an embryo that might have died, nothing. It's a bit early to be sure of any viability at all, and the air cell looks bigger than it should be. Also, all the other eggs are creamy or light brown colored, and this one's greyish white. To leave it in, or get it out of there immediately?

It's gone. I found a second sniffer to confirm my opinion, and smashed the egg into the toilet bowl to get rid of it rather than risk putting it in the trash. It had albumin, yolk, but also a rusty brown colored, thin sludge - just a tiny bit, like a drop of dead blood - that came out. No sign of an embryo. So... down to 21 eggs.

Do you you have a large dog crate you could put her in? Or could you fence off one corner of your coop for her?
