They're Ameraucanas and buckeyes. I've been hatching chicks for 6 years and have always had pretty successful hatches. But this year I've spent $300 on hatching eggs and have no chicks to show for it. So I bought a new brinsea advance and will dumpster the LGs. ! Problem is, I needed to set the eggs today and the brinsea doesn't get here till tomorrow afternoon. So Hopefully if all goes well and i have stable temps, ill change them out sat or Sunday and put them in the brinsea.

I have a routine for my shipped eggs. So far I have had great success. But I have only done this on 2 shipments. Even then a lot has to do with how they are packaged and the mood of the "handlers" on their trip. That is something we have no control over. The USPS carrier that delivered mine yesterday was our "fill in" guy for our regular route man. He was so interested in WHAT was in the box. He handled my box like it was a Million dollar piece of china. He is coming back in 4 weeks to see what has hatched. We need more carriers like him. He did say that having "Live Embryos" instead of "hatching eggs" on the side of the box made him somehow more careful! LOL

I am SO excited!!! I candled yesterday (day 14) and found so many beautifully growing babies!

This is "Cottonball" a black silkie egg. He was just moving and grooving around in there! Sorry for the poor quality. Multi-tasking at its finest with juggling the flashlight, egg and camera... hehehe I have a video of Cottonball moving around too but I need to figure out how to upload it here. It's also on our Facebook page if you want to check it out there. Just 3 more days till lockdown!!!

Day 7 and canled set eggs. 1 0f 43 non fertile. Guess they been busy in the dark. 97% fertile. Did crack the unfertile to make sure I as right and no developemnt at all. Eyes got worse my candleing got better I guess.

So I set 45 eggs in the bator last night and have been turning them by hand. I'd ordered a turner and it arrived today - holds 42. Three eggs have to go. When I set them, I weighed and candled them. Some of these eggs are VERY porous, some of them order than others (the breeder dated them), and some are fairly dirty. I've read not to clean dirty eggs for various reasons. I've also read that porous eggs often don't hatch nor do eggs older than ten days. I have a couple that were right at 10 days when I set them and a couple that have older dates and are pretty dirty. So...

In your opinion, which eggs do I cull?
