May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

What makes an egg blow up in an incubator? Just being not fertilized and heating up?
From what I understand, an egg will explode due to a bacteria that infects the egg and turns it rotten. The best way to prevent this from happening is to thoroughly clean the incubator between hatches with bleach water. I use a bleach water solution to clean mine out and then let it dry in the sun as its' UV rays kills anything the bleach doesn't get. Knock-on-wood, but I haven't had one explode yet.

Well it's day 8 here or is it 9,I have 55 eggs in the incubator.I candled a few last night, just the flash light method and the ones I did appeared to be good except for maybe one.I can't possibly candle them all,it would take too long and I don't want the heat dropping down too much.I read some where that the less they are handled the better.
I have never had one explode but I have had a stinker!! lol

Me too! I have Blue Barnevelders due May 11th. I'm so excited about these guys...I hope they all hatch even though I know that's not reasonable

Candled yesterday at day 8. Now I have 40 eggs in the incubator. These are a barnyard mix of eggs that I got at an auction. May end up with some cheap chicks here, as I paid $7.50 for the eggs! It is amazing how much better these look than any that I have had shipped to me. I may not end up with the fanciest chickens, but the air cells sure are nice to see all in one piece.
May 5th is not coming fast enough.
