Will be setting 21 eggs on April 25 or 26 - would love to join in (I think I caught the hatching bug!!)

Will be setting Dominiques, Light Brahmas, Ameraucanas, and a few barnyard mixes (as soon as I get my incubator empty from this months hatch).

I won an auction for some Polish Tolbunt. I am so excited! I cant decide if I want to do a staggered hatch or borrow an incubator just for the Tolbunts???
I hear they are very hard to hatch, so I would give them their own incubator.

I candled last night and tossed the infertiles/early quitters. Out of 102 Coturnix quail eggs, I have 89 that are developing nicely. Out of 47 (I think) I had to toss 3. I'm excited that all the others are progressing so well!! Just a barnyard mix from 2 diff sources so it'll be a surprise as to what pops out lol. Buff Brahmas, RIR, Light Brahmas, EEs, Orpingtons, Marans, Dominiques, lol I really can't remember what all there is.

Oh...3 of the eggs had very light cracks in them, I wouldn't have been able to tell but I candled them before putting them in. I put clear nail polish over the cracks and they are all 3 developing. :)

I just candled the three in the incubator and saw one moving! This is my first hatch so that was really thrilling. Cant see anything on the other two unfortunately, and I haven't checked the ones under my broody. Wonder if I should?

Isn't that neat to see them moving? It's amazing to see how fast they are developing inside the egg.

That is great...I read somewhere the mixed breeds can be more hearty. I wonder if this is true, but with yours it sure seems to be! What a great % of growing eggs

I just had to look up that breed...very pretty birds! There are so many different breeds of chickens to learn about.

Ok so I got extra inquizative and tried some candleing earlier. Only day 5 but from those I did check looks about 75% are veining already. A few were iffy and at least a couple were clear. So roo test passes just gonna wait a few more days. Like I said when I joined the thread its all a barnyard mix. But only roos with hens that are set now are BA. Hens consist of 1 WL, 3BR, 2 BA, 1 RIR and 1 sexlink (I think) A couple of the white eggs are fertile so hopefully I'll get something egg worthy or able to breed back and get a few more whites.

Otherwise its always a killer waiting them out for me. I've had 100% (even with shipped pekin eggs) down to 0% cuz I flubbered something or some1 did and "forgot" to tel me. Atleast I know fertility if ok for now.
