May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

Anyone know what an egg should look like on day 10? On some of mine, there's veins, and about half of the egg is just a dark mass. I don't think they should be that big on day 10.

That is kinda what mine looked like on day 10 - it depends on how dark the shells are and how strong your light is that you are candling with. As long as there are veins and not just one continuous ring of blood then they should be fine - take a look at these pics maybe that will help. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...g-candling-pics-progression-though-incubation

Getting ready to set tomorrow - I have decided to set 26 eggs instead of 21 (I added some more Brahma eggs to the mix - couldn't resist).

My Tolbunt eggs are due to arrive today!!!!!!! Sorry just a little excited here!!!
Good Luck!! My little girl wants a Frizzle Tolbunt - I have thought about ordering some eggs to hatch but am not brave enough to try it yet - they are rather expensive eggs and finicky hatchers from what I have read!

I have spoke to several Polish breeders and was told they were no easier or harder to hatch than any other breed. I guess we will see in about 22 days!
Maybe it's the fact that the eggs are so expensive that makes me nervous - I would hate to pay hundreds of dollars for a dozen of eggs and then them not hatch. (AND - the hubby would think I'm NUTS!!)

More so than he already does.

I'd like to join! I just picked up 40 LF Cochin eggs from the breeder. I only asked for a dozen but we met half way and she threw in extras - LOTS of extras! Since my bator holds 41, I didn't turn them down lol. The eggs are from her white, black, and blue show birds and she added some splash eggs too. I'll set the eggs later tonight and they should be due on May 16. I'm so excited I can hardly stand it! This is my first incubator hatch...I've read everything under the sun to get ready but I'm not afraid to admit I'm nervous as crap. I figure I won't learn if I don't try so...here goes!

OMG Please dont remind me what I have spent....lol I got them through an auction, and paid a lot less than I expected, and a lot less than I have seen some sell for.

Yes, Im finding the more I read, the more confused I am. I'm pretty good at following directions but WOW. I think it's time to stop unless I run into a snag. :/

I almost just freaked out. I've had my incubator set and warming for two days to get it ready for eggs tonight. I just walked by and glanced at it and temp said 112! I called my son and sure enough, he'd turned it up to see how high it would go. I had to give him the "don't tough Mom's things" speech...he's 28!
