Peeps,
If you have room, you can set a big sponge right under one of the vent holes. Then put a straw from the hole to the sponge, then you can use a turkey baster, or a bulb syringe and squirt water through the straw into the sponge.

OK Mr El Pollo, I took an ambien to sleep tonight. Havent slept well all week. If it kicks in I have to go to bed. If I stay up I tend to get really weird. I cannot be held responsible for what I type. A couple times hubby says I woke him up and talked like a pirate! Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

what breed of bird are we talking about missy ?

I have LF Cochin eggs. Should be black, blue, white, and splash. Very excited about this breed and REALLY hope some hatch!

Did the breeder say what he thought might be causing the low rates? My thought is the crazy weather?? But what do I know! Ooo. Need to check the farmers almanac...

He didn't say. I'm very lucky in that I live about 20 minutes from Newnan, GA, where the local poultry assoc. holds 2 large shows every year. I'm new to chickens but apparently these are major shows in the south. The breeder I talked with is on the assoc board and said they met last week, tons of bad hatches and no idea why. I wouldn't doubt the weather though... It has been crazy here!

we need to know if it is isolated to a specific line of birds could be genetic if there has been many generations of line breeding ??

I wouldn't think it would be a specific type. Most of this poultry assoc. members raise a variety and have been doing so for years.

well tonight is the night i have not been waiting on ,,candling night 81 eggs i suspect i will be a while i always hate to candle while others are directly the opposite, the bators ( knock on wood ) this run have been superbly steady nothing has cropped up here at the end of day 8 to think of temps perfect humidity in the 30s spot on ,if the roo,s of all my immigrants have been working hard we will have no clears to toss that is the reason i hate to candle i always want them all to roll on to lock down lol such a pessimist any hoo I'm off to my candle box wish me luck
