May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

Stable as in not moving or wiggling. Beware of the strange shaped aircells as chicks can very easily become malpositioned when getting ready to hatch. Saddle air cells lead to more chicks with their feet positioned by their head, for example. Keep an eye on them during hatch and be prepared to assist if necessary. As long as they can pip internally they have a fighting chance!
Stable, meaning they dont move? Can you define stable?
Mine on my frizzle eggs are weird shaped. But the chick is developing great! My Tolbunts I checked the first time last night, 48 hrs after placing in incubator. Aircells were odd shaped, just like the frizzles were. But I dont roll or move them much.

So I think I have officially gone crazy. I talked myself into keeping 2 incubators heated up and ready. I have Polish frizzle due to hatch 5-9 and Polish Tolbunts due to hatch 5-16. So I moved all the frizzles into a separate bator....lol So now I have 2 temps and 2 humidity levels to keep an eye on! What was I thinking????? Also found out I have more Tolbunts on the way, due to arrive Tuesday!
I was just thinking two incubators for a hatch would be nice! What if some eggs hatch more slowly than other and the chicks play soccer with the late hatchers? You're not crazy, you're just thinking ahead

I got a second incubator to use as a hatcher and ended up filling BOTH. *facepalm* I'll have to juggle some eggs around when it comes time for hatching :p

I have an air cell that in not malformed, but it is firmly planted on the side of the egg, right in the middle on the side. Will this chick have a chance to turn and to hatch with that type of air cell? The egg looks healthy in its development otherwise. It was not a shipped egg, I went to pick them up and they rode upright in an egg carton all the way home, so it must have been laid that way...

WOW! It's official, I am sticking with local eggs, or at least ones I can drive to pick up. I had forgotten how nice it was to have the vast majority of the eggs in the incubator do well. The first two hatches this year were dismal at best. Both times the eggs were very well packed, but both times the air cells looked like heck. First batch had a 12.5% hatch rate. Second had an 18.75% hatch rate. Both of these two batches had a lot of early quitters, with a few that never even started. Now I bought a batch of unknown barnyard mix at an auction sale, no idea what they are, other than there a a dozen blue eggs, and no idea how old they were. only paid $7.50 for the whole batch so I figured it would be like my own private surprise hatch. It is now day 13, and my 42 egg incubator still has 39 eggs, with good active life in every one. Unless they all decide to die in the last week, I am in for a great hatch. May 5th, hurry up and get here!

I'm so glad to hear your hatch is developing so nicely. I'm a newbie at this hatching thing and I just got my first local eggs to hatch. The eggs growing compared to shipped eggs is just night and day!! Out of 30 eggs, 29 are growing. Compare that with 20% hatch rates from the shipped eggs and unless you need outside genes for a specific breed local eggs sure seem to make the most sense!

With any luck the chick will hatch ok. It might need some help out though. I had one egg that's aircell was off center, and because of that the chick couldn't position correctly and died before internal pipping.
