I stopped turning on day 17 this time. More out of convenience this time. It would be great if it really helped though. I will watch to see.
Sorry, I know this has nothing to do with chickens but is that a peony in your avatar? What ever kind of flower it is, it is beautiful.

I would like to join too!  I received 7 hatching eggs (Marans, Welsumer and Ameraucana) April 16th, unfortunately, the postal service left them in our outdoor community mail box it was 23 F, they were in the post box for a good eight hours.  I didn't hold out much hope due to the freezing temps, but turned out 1 Ameracauna and 1 Marans started to develop for sure.  Sadly my hygrometer/thermometer fell on the Ameracauna egg and cracked and dented the shell, I used melted wax on the the cracks but it looks like all the veining is gone, looks like a blood ring now. But I will leave it in the incubator just in case.  One Marans baby is moving around in the egg, the rest look like quitters or non-fertile eggs.  I set them on April 17th, so we shall see what happens around May 7th. I will order more hopefully on May 8 or 9 and try again! Good Luck to everybody!!!

Well guess I don't know how to use my phone yet..

I'm sorry yu went through this. You would wish the mail person knew a little about chickens! They would be knocking on your door making sure those eggs got off to a good start.

It's lockdown today!! 24/44 shipped eggs made it to lockdown. All but 2 look VERY promising. I saw movement in just about all of them. The eggs I took out of the incubator throughout this hatch have been either infertile or extremely early quitters... like <5 days. Three of the ones I took out had blood rings but I didn't see evidence of an embryo. I am so excited for these babies to hatch.

Wow! Beautiful eggs!
So, do you all hatch them with the cartons? I was thinking of just letting them lay, but maybe the cartons would be better since I have a second set with a later hatch date.

EEEK!!! I just realized that I have lockdown in just 2 more days! WOW! I sort of feel like time has been flying by. I should really get started with another brooding box huh?

I have started hatching all of my shipped eggs in cartons. It seems to improve my hatch rate with those. I recently hatched some farm eggs from my father-in-law on their sides and they did great too. I just think it helps with the shipped eggs because the air cells are wonky and it helps them position right.

P.S. My lcokdown is in 2 days also!!! I have 43 left in there. I can't wait to see what comes out! None of this batch are shipped so I'm HOPING for a good percentage. :D
