May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

Sooooo... What do you think the odds are of ONE lone egg hatching? Out of 12 one was fertile and its made it to day 19... I had to open the incubator cuz the humidity was 85%!!! So I secretly candled real fast since the lid was open and it isn't moving like it was on day 16... I know I know probably shoulda just let some "steam" out and left the egg alone, but I didn't... and now i have worried myself!

Hmmm sounds like it might be a quitter. If it isn't pipped internally yet it's okay to candle for a better look. If it's not moving and you don't see veins, it quit.

that's what I was afraid of... It hasn't poked its head into the aircell yet and the veins look like they are fading. I can see veins but they aren't as dark as theywere on day 16.

HI again, I don't mean to beat this to death........but will continue to find what caused the loss with the chicks.
Seems either something went wrong...................temp????????or maybe illness. two were my own eggs
the English Orps..the others were shipped. The Orps usually pop out like a torpedo and are very strong and active..............
I have another hatch right behind this one....................
The paper towels I had for humidity were very dirty and smelled awful
Had been in there dirty for three days.............could bacteria have started in just a day or so????????????....
I had calibrated the hygrometer.............
Feel like dumping everything, heavy bleaching and setting in the sun to dry....
Guess I will do some research...................
Oh, and thank you to everyone posting pictures................makes a person smile no matter what is going on

Fading is ok, but washed out is not because it means the blood vessels are breaking down.

My incubator had a musty smell starting so I opened another vent hole... Assuming that meant there wasn't enough fresh air coming in. Bacteria can grow that fast! So a good clean out is probably what needs to happen. I dont know if that hindered your hatch or not because i am a newbie!
