May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

Day 13 today! Tomorrow I will do another check but I don't think this is going to be a great hatch and not sure why I did do a check two days ago and honestly ill be surprised to have over 4-6 hatch! Many started to develop then quit so not sure and most have crazy air cells. Maybe ill get a blue black and splash Cochin, I would be ecstatic to even have just one of each :) all hens... Asking for to much, eh?! Lol

day 22 ? I have 14 to go if they go I feel a few more late bloomers will come but after fight a 22 hour power outage I'm lucky to be where I am I kept up and hatched 14 over night running on a power inverter and cords from the truck I only had a few dips down to 95.7 no big deal really but at this late in the game it's all about being delicate and that was not in the game plan last night I had to pull chick three times but still on a six count I'll let these others cook while go to work and get some rest

Yes day 22, put they are pipped correctly and good aircells so I am giving them time. Its only been 8 hrs since I found the pips. They are both still alive so I still have hope.

Hatching shipped eggs are so hard unless you have a good cabinet incubator. I have had terrible results!

Candled the quail eggs today, I saw veining in every single one!!! So glad the post didn't totally do them in. They arrived with a leaky box and 5 cracked eggs so I had little hope. Surprisingly my husband is excited about the quail, he like many other spouses do not get the incubating fever but is supportive non the less. We may stick with the quail, love my chickens but man are quail economical birds! Plus if my hubby is excited it is Sooo much more fun!

Congrats to all those with hatchlings!!!! And good luck to those who are waiting still!!!!

Good luck to you too. Mine hatch memorial day

This may not be an appropriate place for this, but it is about incubating.....more precisely, incubators. I am new to all of this and have a broody with 11 eggs under her at day 18.

I have an opportunity to purchase a used Hovabator 1583, which holds 42 eggs with an automatic egg turner that is in good working order for $75. I am wondering if this is a good deal. I was planning to get my husband to build one for me, but was thinking that might be a better alternative.

Any thoughts??

Not a bad deal, but one can be built for less. The Turner itself runs 45-50$ new and incubator about 85$ new on ebay. So for used that sounds about right. I would clean it very well and sun dry it. Inspect for heavy scratching where bacteria can hide and fester, ruining hatches. There is a ton of general info in the incubation thread for temps etc.. Good luck and welcome to the crazy addiction we call hatching!
