May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

Hey jac I have the same issue with one of these hamps I hatched,,, I don't know what he is but he is not a hamp is has a lil silver or grey bar down the back this is my second batch from the same breeder and this dude is odd

I have a few late pippers on day 23 gonna let them go today and hope for the best we went 23 for 39 on the immagrant eggs from the states and three for seven on the sikie snafu egg carton eggs not bad for having NO electricity during hatch day I will cull a few from the brooder today have one herniated navel one malformed foot but a hearty lil guy none the less and one that's just not right I think that does it for the April 2013 U.S egg run I think we will have a good shot at the slw flock moving forward

Baby Bunts!!! They are so ugly right now. The 2nd one is only 30 mins old!
. Congrats on the bunts jac I was starting to wonder if bunts were in your future at all you are like me I'm bound and determined to have slw flock here at any cost I felt the same about the Sussex and still do I will have them if I have to pack a suitcase full in July just to get a trio

HI,
I would take some of the eggs. .Having to many is making her work to hard and if she cannot keep them warm she may not get a hatch.
Sounds like other hens are laying in her nest. I mark the eggs so I can easily tell which are the new ones.
Aren't those broodies sweet.

We only have one other OEGB hen in the pasture with her, and she's not laying anything - she's still too young. Not by much, but vet says she's probably still a few weeks shy of beginning to lay. When I went out last night to check on them, she had all the eggs under her - so I'm assuming she's probably rotating the eggs when I see that some are poking outside of her "fluff." It's been pretty hot down here, upper 80s low 90s. She seems pretty content this morning, came out to do her business and get something to eat and drink, and then hopped back in. I think what I was worried about may actually be normal behavior for that breed on a large nest in hot weather.

A little determined there el? LOL My wife saw some light sussex at a local egg mans place. Now she wants a flock. And started me off with 1 1/2 blooded roo to make this. Hmmmmm thinking have to find a way to get some pure eggs or a hen or 2 somewhere otherwise its a LONG process of breeding for the birds. But what more reason do I need to hatch some more birds.....

On another subject I am thinking Saturday setting my 1/2 rouen eggs and around 2 dz guineas. Then let mamas do their thing (I hope) I know the guineas will set eventually but not sure about the duck. Maybe I can stash her eggs with the guineas.....

:yuckyuck

Why Not..........................
I currently have an incubator, hatcher and brooder in the dining room.
a brooder in a utility room, one in the basement, one in the garage..........
Two empty bedrooms to go...yup, think I will have room in July.................
Lol

. They will do the job for ya acre

Well when I get home tonight from work I'll eggtopsie the remaining eggs in my hatcher to see what or where things went side ways but I suspect the power going down in the middle of my hatch had some role, but with the adversity that we had to over come on hatch day we still did quite well considering ,,, as for the farm innovators 2200 forced air I'm fairly happy with it's performance as a hatcher it held temp accurately and the humidity was easily controlled for a low end styro, it did a good job for us.It was a last minute purchase as I did not have enough time to order a hova before my flight home so we just went to the feed store and bought what was available as usual I went to a poultry show and bought more eggs than i had incubator space for but all in all I would recommend it to any one needing a cheap styro in a pinch
