It is exciting....this is my first time around.....and with a broody hen....and it is her first time around too. I am in the middle of day 19. My broody must be locked down, because she didn't move off her eggs yesterday or today so far. I put food and water close enough to her so all she had to do is stretch out her neck to get a bite or take a drink...and she has been doing that. I am sure she knows what she is doing.....but it would be nice to have an idea what is going on under there.

I don't know what I am going to do with that many chicks if she hatches all 11.

I still don't have that experience. my chickens wouldn't sit on their eggs. i have to put it in the incubator. Got seven out of nine the first time and now i have 13 that hopefully will hatch on tuesday.

I love this, the wait is the worst part of it

I candled mine on day 17, and all 11 were alive, so she will be busy if they all get out. I am hoping she will let me peek under her when things start.....she has been really good. She puffs a little when I mess with her, but she doesn't squawk, peck or anything. Of course I also understand they can turn into quite contrary birds after those babies hatch.

. Depending on the breed you can force them to brood by increasing the amount of light they receive but if you have breeds where the broodiness has been bread out such as the white leghorn nothing you can do will force them to brood

I have a few late pippers on day 23 gonna let them go today and hope for the best we went 23 for 39 on the immagrant eggs from the states and three for seven on the sikie snafu egg carton eggs not bad for having NO electricity during hatch day I will cull a few from the brooder today have one herniated navel one malformed foot but a hearty lil guy none the less and one that's just not right I think that does it for the April 2013 U.S egg run I think we will have a good shot at the slw flock moving forward

Wow 23 thats a great number! So you got a weird chick too huh?

Someone had a post about regulating humidity in here a few days ago that I am unable to find. They were talking about basing the level bator % on the room humidity so that the two equaled 80% during incubation and raising that total to 100% at lockdown. That way you were adjusting for variances in climate. Does anyone remember that and know were I can find it? I am in the june hatch thread and someone asked about it. Any help appreciated.
