OH!! how cool!! I just hatched a couple of blue lace reds wyandottes! maybe in a year I can send you a couple of those eggs!! i would love to know they are the only ones there!! ; ) it doesnt matter where I post from, phone, computer, kindle.. they all do it!

I am about the same way EL. I think and hope but wait til the freezer camp bugle (crow) sounds.

Last night bad storm. No power outage but 1 of my exstention cords failed me. I don't know how long but was in the 60's again, BOTH HATCHERS.:eek:  Hoping I didn't get a big stick in the rear with these. If they go I'll prolly be after you and JNJ.
 Big bator  was fine but 2 hatchers were down. Trying get temp back up ASAP but grrrr I love/hate this hatching. I guess gives me another reason to hatch MORE.
Lol I just had lunch with the wife in town and she just ordered me yes I said ordered me to build another grow out pen for her American chickens the gringo birds lol she told me her other grow out pen was fine for her costa rican peeps but not for her American birds because it does not have a enclosed top to keep out hawks I was laughing so hard I was in tears I asked her why this hatch was so different from the other gringo birds like the hamps and she said she has waited for over a year for her silver laced and by god they will grow out in our bedroom before she let's any thing kill them before she can breed and hatch more lol she is a trip too darn funny

they're adorable!! made for each other!! i like the lego and the fishtank brooder! I just use a rubbermaid tote...and a piece of 2x4!!

OK finally got the wee ones sorted out.

They are in the brood box now so sorry but the pics are all red what with the red light! So here goes ;
The first pic was this and we were so worried about all that blood because it did look a lot. That foot was firm behind his head and he had a big blood streek down his neck for ages where the foot was stuck to his head bless him. But ok now so here he/she is age 2 days! With friend!

This is funny because eggbert is as far away from the light as he can get - he has been quite pampered with the heat and doesn;t value it as Herbert does!
He stays smack under the bulb! HAving been found out in the cold without a mom and then having to come all the way here without a heat lamp he DOES value the lamp much more! much much more!

Eggbert just wants to hop on things and play! and explore the new place!

He loves playing with lego already! He is a very fast learner see the bench S/he just created!

This last one is lovely of them kissing they do get on really well already I think they are glad of company.

I just love this pic the one on the floor is the new guy and the one on the play bricks is Eggbert - yeap he can climb already!
You would not believe it is the same bird that was covered in blood in the first pic!
Oes
aww, congrats on the baby making it! I have to ask. How warm do you have it in the brooder? I ask because from here it doesn't look like a real big one, and is that a red heat lamp? You probably only need a 75W bulb for a brooder that small. I have a larger brooder, and that's what I use for the first week, then down to a 60W. They are happy with that. Just wondered, for all I know you have them in a garage, and it's cool out there!

That would be awesome here the options are very limited I can't just get online and order hatchery birds or eggs it just does exists here the local fowl are gamey jungle type bird poor egg layers and scrawny for the most part there are a few breeders like myself who have the ability and resources to import quality breeds by way of hatching eggs but there again is very very limited Cochins brahmas and a few other ornamental breeds but not many hearty true dual propose breeds it's kinda cool to have folks out to the farm just to ask what kinda bird is that ! Lol then you tell them they lay 250 jumbo eggs a year and they are floored

Actually it is not a fish tank! It is just a plastic tub.
The temp is sitting at 33 - so it is a lot lower then in the bator they just came out of! it is only sitting at 91.4 half way down the tub so would be a deal warmer under the light. I guess directly under about 95. THe bulb is a 100 wt but it is on a dimmer so we can alter it as we need and that makes it easy to down the temp as the chicks grow. IT is very affective - we have had our other chicks in this and they were ok and oh yes the BAT! I found a baby bat and it went in this too! Awsome to have and feed mealworms! lol
I double checked the temp gages the one right at the bulb says 38.3 and the one half way down says 33.4 I turned it down a bit so now it is 36.9 at the bulb end and half way it is reading 32 so it is about 98 at the bulb and 91 the other end of the tub.
Oes - the babies are fine they are enjoying the space and they are sleeping on the yellow dish cloth! Its the mummy for now lol

My wife not THAT demanding. Just gets grumpy when we lose birds. She sees the positive aspects of them. Food bug control and maybe the sales part. Other than that she knows its 1 of my few interest I can stay interested in and not bug the heck out of her.

She does have some desires for birds but lets me do what I want.

And that's good, a 100W bulb..looks bigger. That's photos for you. A bat? How fun would that be? They are great to have around to eat those pesty little bugs outside in the summer. We have them start buzzing around in the summer just as it starts getting dark. Weaving back and forth getting mosquito's and nats..whatever is flying around there at night.

Day 21 of my first hatch and I have 2 pips!!! Yeah!!! Three more haven't done anything yet. One of my pippers has its beak out the hole, the other is just a dimple in the shell. So here is my question;
The one with the beak out has a very saddled air cell. How can I tell if it needs help?
How can you tell if a chick is shrink-wrapped, etc. and needs help? Is there any way to tell without opening the incubator?

I'd do a quick candle to check for movement and internal pipping. If they've not pipped internally but still moveing I'd give them a few more days. If they've pipped internally and just having a hard time you may want to help. If there's no movement and you want to investigate I'd do it outside (or put them in a gallon ziplock bag) in case they explode!
mine are on day 23 no movements inside dont know what to do. help please
