May Hatch Thread--Fill up those bators n' broodies!

i don't know what method of incubation you use ? but i my self incubate dry NO WATER for the first 18 days you can take the instructions that came with you incubator and use them to light your grill. At lock down NO more than 70% 65 is optimal candle your eggs the day of your set use a pencil to mark the air cell so you can monitor internal evaporation or weigh them i do both, make sure no matter how your eggs arrive weather you pick them up yourself at the breeder or they are shipped set them in cartons pointy end down in a cool dark place for 24 hrs not 22 not 25 24 hrs use at least three calibrated thermometers in different places in your incubator then take the readings from all three and average them this is you true temp, after you remove your turner if you use one THIS IS IMPORTANT adjust the temp in the bator to reflect the temp at egg level of the turner remember the turner is a full inch and a half higher than the floor of your bator by not doing this step your eggs at lock down will be a full two degrees cooler than they were in the turner this can be also done by using cut out foam cartons to hatch in i don't use this because i use a dedicated hatcher so my temps are set at floor level always if you have any questions on hatching in cartons post or pm jnjmaning for her method she hatches in cartons with good results with this said don't give up if at first you don't succeed try try again we all have had and will have again Failures no mater what kind of incubator you use if you follow a few simple fundamentals you will have success but the most important thing is to have fun and enjoy the hobby of giving and caring for the new life for which you have charge DISCLAIMER this is what works for me and has worked for many years this information is the culmination of personal experience and advice of others that hatch on a regular basis if followed you increase your hatch rates but i can not guarantee success
Thank lyou soooooooooo much. i do put water in since day one i thought it needed huminity from the start.

so, are you saying he will die?
or if is dragging he will die?
yes its sad to say but a extreme herniated navel is rarely survivable for the lil guys sorry

Are you serious????? LOL There is not a dang thing going on here!
Come ON JNJ. I have 6 pipping and chirpy rolly polly eggs in both hatchers. Thought I'd froze, then cooked em. And to add to El's rules. They are coming out. Had a spike earlier in a hatcher of 108. Was screaming such horrid things at it. Then they started pipping. Other hatcher is staying perfect after the power failure this morning. Think after these I need to clean heating element or something. Might replace thermo like I did in hatcer 1.

x2 for sure.................I believed the incubator instructions for to long..
finally tried dry hatch even though it did not make sense to me.........................My numbers are way up and less stress.
I use egg cartons and love the results.......................I do mot excpect perfection from shipped eggs................... 100% with my own eggs is common.

lol I guess im upset cause i lost six chicks because of the shrink wrap thing and have no idea how to corect it.
Really sorry Dolfi.............

It just flat hurts.
I lost some recently due to an error on my part..........
Nothing to do but learn from it and try again.

ok guys so
1 dont add water until lock down.
2 put eggs in a carton in a cool, dry, dark place when they arive for 24 hours
3 for 18 days in the turner and
4 at lock down put them in egg cartons

is that right

i know right its scary i re read that post and i sound like my parents,,,,,, whats up with that ? lmao

he is hopping all around the bator, and being REALLY noisy
I have not experienced this problem. .but remember reading that you can put the ointment used for shrinking hemroids on it
to help it shrink..................cannot remember what it is called but perhaps if you go to search and put in herniated navel
you can find the answer...............I do know that they do not always recover but it is worth a shot.
Good Luck..................
