Maybe a dumb question but: Can you give chickens "real" oyster shells?

Our 2 silkie hens have stopped laying & now I am thinking it's because of lack of calcium. I was giving them regular egg shells every once in a while, but my hubby was thinking that we could crush up all the oyster shells from a bbq we had last weekend and give them to the chicks... Would this be ok?! We washed really well of course, but I just wanted to make sure before we went through the trouble of crushing them...

I think it should be alright. Did you boil them? But also I dont think thats why your Silkies stopped laying though. The girls may have stoped laying due to molt, lack of light and any one of numerous reasons.
