So it's been the coldest past few days like ever it seems and my little white bantam has been spending almost all day inside the nest box. I thought just because she was cold but today was day 4 so i decided to see what was up with her and i nudged her a little bit to see if i could get her out and she has atleast one of my buff orpington eggs under her and probably atleast 3 of hers. I honestly didnt expect that until spring but nature does what it pleases i guess? I just wanted to create this thread to see how the success rate of hatches in the winter work out on pullets under a year old?im excited about some "maybebabies" that may be here at the beginning of February! Eeekkk go Chicaletta!!

I finally caught my lil girl put in her run eating and ran to see what she was brooding on and its only 2 eggs, both buff orpington eggs... Lol

Im just glad Ziptie, my buff is nice enough to lay in the neighboring box and isnt adding eggs.

Its normal for a broody to stop laying and concentrate on their hatch right?

Yes. And mark the eggs she is sitting on... JUST IN CASE Ziptie wanders over and lays an egg in with them.... it's been known to happen.

Well Ziptie is a bad girl. :/ she ran into the nest box while Chicaletta came out for bfast this morning and was sitting there so i assumed she was just laying another egg in there and i went inside to get chicaletta a special treat... Came back and that B*t** Ziptie had a bloody egg shell on her face. There were 4 eggs in tbe nest (3 now) i never marked them or candled so i dont know which 2 were the original ones... I went into full on panic mode so i moved Chicaletta and her 3 eggs into my brooder box in hopes she would just lay in there to protect them... She escaped and went back into her original nest box so i brought the eggs back to her and she immediately put them back under her bum. Idk why i thought i could mess with nature but im just gonna let her be and hope for the best now. Sheesh...
