I bought some bcm chicks from greenfire in late September. ended up with 4 males and one female. bought some supplemental pullets to keep her company.

I just separated my chickens into a "flock" of three hens and one rooster and the rest of the roosters are together in a different yard two days ago.

the one bcm hen has been looking like this for a while. kind scrunched up and tail down. wondering if she is sick or if shes just the bottom of the pecking order/feeling uncomfortable due to the recent changes in pecking order.

Looks like she's eating shavings. Have you seen her eat feed?

I just started feeding scratch
Stop. Feeding scratch is like feeding them candy or chips.

A pelleted or crumbled feed is a complete balanced diet and if you feed anything besides that crumble or pellet you are taking away from them getting a balanced diet.
Not getting a balanced diet will cause problems.

Can you pick her up and then pick another hen that isn't sick and gauge her weight?
she is lighter.

im wondering if she wasn't able to get enough food.

the separation of chickens that happened a few days ago was intended to happen 3 weeks ago but I got covid and was building the "bachelor pad". I think crowding could have been an issue. seeing her eat vigorously today makes me think she was getting excluded from eating with all the cockerels in with her.
