Hello everyone I'm a new member to the site.My Wife and I have been getting great info from the BYC forums since the day we got our first chicks. We started in May 2017 and BYC forum has helped us everystep of the way. I am a Tow boater by trade and push barges in the intracoastal canal and major ports along the southern coast. We have 4 children together. We have raised a few pekin and rouen ducks. We are on our second batch of Cornish cross. About to start with rabbits And we maintain a flock of about a dozen Chickens of different breeds for eggs and the lovely sound of a roosters crow. It's those little moments with your family on the swing with a cup of coffee listening to the roosters crow wow! Very prideful moment.
My DW can tell you every single name breed and how many we have even better than me. I guess I'm in charge of research and development of our little endeavor, And she's the chicken mom lol Actually SHE maintains the flock in more ways than one while I'm at work But it's a great hobby for us and our family to enjoy together. We moved to Central Louisiana in Oct 2016 form the Lafayette area to get our feet wet in a little bit of homesteading style of living. So far so good we're really learning alot. We Have one good sized coop with two chicken tractors and I get to build a rabbit Hutch when I get home "whoo hoo" lol A labor of love I guess. So far the experience has been very rewarding and worth the money and effort and I hope to continue as long as my wife is onboard with the idea..
OK, well I think that's enough for the introduction see you all on the Forums!!.

You might enjoy chatting with other members in LA...you can find them here on your state thread:Louisiana

Back in 2010, I traveled up the ICW from FL to NJ and enjoyed seeing the tugs and activity. You're in a beautiful part of the country!

Thanks for joining us and best wishes for your plans!

Glad you're here Towbird!

If you haven't yet, make sure your coop(s) have a proper amount of VENTILATION. Your chickens will absolutely thank you for it! :D

Thank you for the reminder I have a sliding coop door but also two eve vents installed one on each side above the side access doors plus there's a little bit of air flow through the roof panels. The vents I installed after the pic are 13by 8 inches do you think that's enough? It don't stay damp in the coop and the poop dries out fairly quickly.
