I am a first time chicken owner and ordered from McMurray hatchery. My Chicks will be here in 1 week. I have looked through the forums on here and alot of the experiences are bad ones:( I know opinions are like a@!#oles, everyones got one, but now Im scared they will be deformed, sick, or die when they are 2 weeks old or even be a super low grade chicken. All the forums I read were pretty old though. Im hoping to get some more recent experiences.....Im very excited to get my babies, even if some people have had a bad time. I have my fingers crossed!! my chicks will be pets and hopefully some eggs:)

McMurray has been in business a long time and knows what they are doing.

Understand, McMurray doesn't have any chickens and hasn't for a long long time. saladin

?? I'm pretty sure McMurray still has chickens... Maybe what you meant is that they stop selling over the coldest winter months... They should be up and running again in February...

No McMurray does not have chickens (if they do that is news to me): just like Strombergs doesn't have chickens.

McMurray contracts with others that raise the birds and provides the eggs. Looking at a catalogue tells you nothing.

As I said, Strombergs hasn't had any birds in decades but you can't tell that from the cat. saladin

McMurray has stock all around the hatchery area, They own their own stock and but do contract with breeders for Turkeys, Geese, Ducks and Gamebirds. But they do own their chicken stock. I have relatives that work for them. The new hatchery was built in 1991 away from the old farmstead where most of the poultry is raised. We have used them for almost 30 years. This year was the first time I have gotten hatchery chicks from another hatchery.....it was a good deal though!!!! Money talks sometimes., sorry!
