McMurray Ornamental Layers My Spanish are WONDERFUL!

Well, now you've gone and done it! Now I think I need a WFBS, and that Golden Campine roo makes me want one of THOSE too, only a girl!!!

It's nice to get some feedback from people who actually own a particular breed. I'd written off most Mediterranean breeds due to their flighty reputation.

Thanks!

We ordered 25 pullets (each a different breed) and ended up with 23 pullets and 2 males.

Sam, our Golden Campine, and Ike, a Single Brown Leghorn. We gave Ike to a friend who lost his roo to a fox attack.

We call the 2 pics of Sam and Eleanor - #1 Sam dances for Eleanor & #2 Eleanor rejects Sam.

I always find it amazing how beautiful chickens can be...

Wonderful Pictures I can't wait till mine grow up! I know I'll miss them at this age but I just can't help it I want to see how beautiful they will be as adults!

Solarical- We got alot of one breed too we got 12 EE's They are different colors but if we only had gotten 3 they prolly wouldnt of been because we have alot of the lighter tan with black ones! I really wish I would of ordered exactly what I wanted to I really was hoping for more heavy breeds but Wanted the chance at polish (which we only got 1 of ) I was hoping for cochins but luckaly I ordered 2 Silver laced and 2 Blue I got 2 SL and 3 "Blue" only one is actually blue and we got NONE in our order! Oh well If I hadn't gotten the collection I would of never had faverolles or WFBS or a dark brahma.

I guess I should have read and listened more before choosing what I wanted. A friend sent us the McMurray catalog and before I knew it, I was on the phone placing a $120 order lol.

But I did get some really nice chickens that we love and with a little work I am slowly finding some other pullets to add to my laying flock. There are just so many breeds and I want them all! lol

I am still trying to find a Blue Cochin, Frizzle and some Mille Fleurs, but that might have to wait til next Spring, as most hatcheries are out for the season. I don't have enough room for another full order and I don't know anyone else that has chickens to split the order with.

I know this is an old thread, but I was searching for something else and ran across it.

I have 4 WFBS hens and I have to agree with everything that's been said about them in this thread. As day old chicks (we got 27) the WFBS were the only ones that would run up when we opened the brooder and look us right in the eye. They've always been the sweetest of our flock - and will fly up to my arms when I hold them out. I wouldn't say they are "cuddly", but they are sweet, friendly, and good natured chickens. And they are good layers - big eggs!

Here are a couple of pictures of mine - this one was taken yesterday. They have really large combs and wattles and many think they are roosters when they first see them. I think it adds to their beauty!

I have read many write-ups on WFBS that say these are flighty, unfriendly chickens - my experience has been exactly the opposite. I really

my WFBS!

ETA: My WFBS tend to be very melodramatic - when they first started laying they made a major production of it and honked in pain for a good hour before laying the egg. They had me so worried I actually sat in the coop with each of them for the first couple of eggs they layed. I finally figured out they are just big babies. And they've gotten much better about it now. And the really are BIG hens - much larger than the other breeds we have.

Thank you, Kinnip. I agree - I think WFBS are just beautiful chickens and have wonderful, fun personalities. My Phoenix rooster is absolutely in love with the WFBS - we have 20 hens, and he clearly prefers the WFBS. He even roosts with one on each side of him each night and you don't ever see him without at least one or two WFBS next to him - and he wouldn't leave the coop when they first started laying.

Mine are only 7 months old, so they don't have the white faces yet. They got white ear lobes pretty quickly though. I can't wait until the get those white faces - I imagine they'll be even prettier than they are now. I've read the white faces will come in after first molt - but I've also read it can take up to 2 years.
