I have little experience but 19 looks like a brown leghorn and 26 28& 24 Rhode Island Reds? 9 is a definite polish! They are all so cuTe!! They grow up fast! Enjoy em!

So far we have 2 white chested black polish, 8 White Rocks, 2 white polish. = 12 of 34....

The "chipmunk" markings on several have developed slight differences, mostly on the shade and type of lines down their back. Some even have developed "spots" with their markings. Very cool to look at.

I made this order just for the fun of trying to find out what they were, and what we had....I like to read the forum alot, and it gives me a reason to socialize- both here and in the RW. "Know anyone that needs a chicken??" My poor DH smacks his face everytime I ask that in public......

But, I also need to decide which are the best breeds to keep, and the best to re-home. My coop is going to be 8X8 (just needs the roof now...) and we have a seperate brooder that is 4X3....

Any suggestions? I like the look of the traditional WR's, but the polish also look very interesting. We already have a good BR roo, who I have taken a liking to. He chases our cat

Are there any certain breeds that don't fare well together?


We are keeping chickens for eggs (of course)....to eat bugs around the farm, and for later to be in the freezer....so I don't want to keep anything I may grow too attached to. The white rocks will most likely stick around, and future generations will be possible meals.

And if it helps, we have sheep, a very scaredy cat, and will have guineas as well. Our dogs treat our chickens like our sheep, meaning they are their babies too.


Anyone care to jump in??

Several of my OEG chicks had chipmunk stripes, along with various other breeds. EE are noticeably fluffier then other chicks and will have a puffy face. I don't see that in yours.

Ok- so after spending a couple days lurking around, looking at pictures, and re-reading the posting requirements

I have re-posted some close ups of the breeds I don't really know very well.

AND...I found out, that I DO have some with fluffy legs...OMG.

Ok...So.....now that I am better educated, and can provide you with better photos (please excuse some of the blurry ones)....

Give me your opinion please....

This one I need a definate answer on. We lost one of these, and McMurray will need to know to send the replacement.

This one has lots of markings, but no mask around the eyes. And if the color is a little off....it's a smokey grey color. (There are 2 pictures of it to see the back markings...)

This little sneak is one with fluffy legs, and has a smokey cream color.

This was all news to me- usually I am so worried about keeping them from taking off through the house, I guess I forgot to look at its legs!!

This one needs a good guess on what it is too- we lost one just like it. Sorry for the blurr- it was a fiesty one!! Strong personality for sure!!

And the last one, has a creamy grey chest, and is a little blueish. Not sure...and didn't have any other pictures of it that would even come close to showing its face/legs.

I ordered the Special Assorted Bargain this spring too, and I've been so happy with the variety of breeds! And I was surprised to find I had more girls than boys!

Anyhoo, I think your second chick pictured could be a Silver Spangled Hamburg - looks like mine did as a chick. And the one below it could be a Splash Cochin. Just guesses though - I'm far from an expert!
