McMurry's Rainbow Layers: What did YOU get?

Quote:
I said that I'd check back in and although I haven't figured them all out for sure - here is what I think I have...

A nice variety of EEs. I think I ended up with at least 4 but I can't remember - I've already sold some of the chicks.
I did end up with a buff cochin, light brahma, dark brahma, white wyandotte, two buttercups and a white crested black Polish.

I think that the chicken I was hoping would be a Delaware is actually a Lakenvelder. The other two are still up for guesses. One is the prettiest shade of white with grey/black. Her skin looks like it was touched up with luminating power - even her feet have a powder blue look to them. I've tried to get a good picture of her but haven't.

We also ended up with and Egyptian fayoumi, Golden Campine, a couple of cornish, and two silver leghorns.

I had intended on selling half but since most of them are chickens I didn't have it is much harder to decide who will go and who will stay.

I would bet that the one that is wite with gray/black is an andelusian. I have one that is turning more gray all the time but very light gray with some black splashes. around her face her skin is like what you are talking about luminating powder. And her legs are also that blue powder color. In the same batch of chickens that I shared with my SIL was a blue andelusian which she got. I think I also have a black andelusian. SIL ended up with a splash andelusian like mine. Mine are very flighty and scarey. But they are pretty birds. And supposed to be good layers. One nice thing is that they are slight birds and don't eat so much as the heavy breeds.

Well you people made me decide to order the rainbow order next year. I had thought about it but never had but next spring I will.

I have never been disappointed with a Rainbow Layer collection. It is a nice way to get a little bit of everything AND have interesting eggs to find. It's also a good way to keep track about who is laying and who isn't since you eventually start to see the small differences.

Dh took some pictures of the rainbow layers that we're not 100% sure of...

I ordered the Rainbow Pullet pack from Meyer. I got:
3 EE (two died)
1 golden phoenix
4 Australorps
2 GLW
2 SLW
1 Aundalusian roo (packing peanut = gorgeous!)
2 silver spangled hamburgs
2 red Cochins
1 Turken
2 barred rocks
SEVEN POLISH (yes, seven!!!)

I had an absolute blast trying to figure out what they were. One night, I sat next to the brooder with the Meyer catalog and a glass of wine, making notes, until DH said he was offended that I would "rather party with the chicks" than with my husband. Oops!

That first one sure is pretty. don't know what it is though. the other could be a splash andalusian but mine doesn't have that much black on it. As I look at it again I think that tail is too long too. But what do I know? LOL

That first one looks like a brown leghorn, except the white feathering on her neck. She's beautiful.

The second one I'm also guessing splash andalusian.

That is the most frustrating part - they don't tell you what they send. I get the impression that they just grab a little bit of this and that and mail them! Frustrating but fun!

A real grab bag - you probably won't receive the same combination twice. Sometimes you just get the minimum of what they say you'll receive (a minimum of 5 varieties). Other times you get no more than one or two of each.

I keep losing my catalog and running in to the computer just doesn't help that much.

So I suggested that we start posting pictures of our babies but no one paid attention. However, a couple of days later someone posted the same idea and now they are getting putting together pictures of young chickens for us to use. Yippee!

BUT I needed help right now so I created a cheat sheet of my own. I cut and pasted a McMurray catalog off of the web page and any other chickens I ordered online from those web pages and it has been a miracle maker.

McMurray is pretty good about letting you know if they have birds offered in different colors so all I have to do is compare what I know they do sell and forget about what they don't.

One of my earlier Rainbow collections had Brown Leghorns in it (5) so I suspect that the two little girls like the one in the first picture are also leghorns - they resemble the others. They have a salmon colored breast but the coloring is not the same as the brown. So, I went through my sheet and discovered that MM sells a Silver Leghorn but no pic of a hen. I googled Silver Leghorn with still no luck. Nothing on Feathersite - so I'm still considering that ID 'iffy'.

Thanks for your opinions - we'll wait and see...
