I also have a black rosecomb cockerel and pullet for sale if anyone is interested. Not sure on the quality of them, but they come from good parents. The boy is absolutely gorgeous but he holds his tail low (just like his daddy sometimes does).

Hey guys!

I'm in charlottesville... I'd take a few RIR hens or barred rock. Just some simple birds to add to my current five bird flock. I currently have 4 americanas (easter eggers) and 1 black sex-link. I have a 10'x10' coop so I have some more room. It's just to get some eggs for my family and some extras to share with neighbors etc. Please PM me if you have anything.

Thanks

Are chicks usually available? (Or young hens)
Of the less common breeds (not just RIR and rocks)?
Prices competitive... or "top of the line" sort where even day olds are $10?

Just wondering if it is worth the long drive... especially for someone that is just getting into the hobby and des not even have any chickens yet. I was planning on ordering from a hatchery Feb 1st... but...
As I am looking to do a bit of a breeding experiment as well as feed the crew on good eggs, better stock WOULD be nice. I just do not want to pay a premium when I am not into serious breeding or showing yet.

We were planning on getting:
Welsummers
Ameracaunas
Cherry eggers or Production reds
and a Silkie or two that WOULD possibly be for showing... but mostly for a pet for my DD and broodies for later chicks.

I have 4 hens and a roo that are silkie crosses. What they're crossed with I have no idea but they lay well and one just went broody, she's sitting on one of her own and a few BR eggs that are due next week. I'm willing to part with them all for $20. I can provide pics if interested. They are cute.

How old are they? Do silkies do well in cold weather? What color eggs do they lay? If they are rare or difficult to care for I don't think they'd do well with me. How many eggs do they lay? Sorry, I'm new to all this and am still trying to figure out all the breeds and stuff.

Thanks

Well first off they don't look exactly like silkies. They're mixed with regular feathered LF, I think a black sex link maybe a RIR. They're all black feathered, one with feathered legs and all have pompadores. They lay light tan eggs but they lay everyday. They were hatched last May. They do well in cold weather and are very easy to take care of. They're a little on the skiddish side, they don't let you pet them but I wouldn't call them flighty. I'm just trying to make room for my pure breds so I'd like to part with the rest.
