What does the chewing motion mean?! I have a newbie who is making chewing and swallow motions! She is about 5 hours post a VERY long zip. Like, 36 hours... We assisted too...

Wow that's pretty late what breed were they?

Mixed breeds. Cream leghorns, speckled sussex, silver laced wyandottes and rhode island reds. This morning I have one externally pipped and several rocking and rolling. So weird. Fingers crossed!!

It means they are still absorbing the yolk.

I'm not sure I'm not as educated with that or experienced as other people on here. Was all the yolk gone? Is she acting normal and moving around.

If she’s making chewing motions she’s still absorbing the yolk through her naval. It’s cute and odd!

She had to be removed from the incubator because her energy levels were through the roof! I have 2 more eggs in there about to hatch. She loves the warmth of a hand and hot water bottle (covered in layers, obviously)

The yolk was gone, but she is not acting normal. I made my own thread about it... Thank you for the info.
