Howdy! I am pretty new to chicken owning.
me and my family have owned chickens for almost three years now. we started off with 5 chickens that were gifted to us. we now have 10 chickens with us.
we currently have 8 rhode island red chickens, 1 easter egger chicken and 1 other chicken that, as of now, we cannot figure out the breed.
i really like how much personality and traits chickens can have. they are definitely one of my favourite birds. I used to own a rooster who would jump up onto my shoulders when i was walking around the backyard, i have many fond memories with him but he was sadly lost to a band of raccoons.
i like making art in my free time, its one of my favourite hobbies other than raising chickens in fact. i also like building crafts and just using my imagination to the fullest
my family and i have been the ones raising the chickens, ive been the one making sure their health or bed/morning time and my mom has decided to be on food duty. whenever i am not at home, either at work or at school i tend to be with the chickens. i’ll occasionally feed them peanuts and because of this, i often have a small group following me around looking for treats.
finally, ive found BYC not too long ago, i had been having trouble with a young chicken that hadn’t been going to sleep on time, we came to the conclusion that she didnt like being alone at night which is understandable. we were given her as an egg along with a few others because the person we recieved her from had not yet owned an incubator and hoped we could incubate the eggs. before this the eggs had already been under the care of a hen but he feared that it wasn’t safe enough for her to do that. only one of the eggs from the batch had survived and hatched, that being the young chicken we have right now. she’s become very affectionate yet shy at times and we’ve only recently started introducing her to the flawk.
anyway that’s all i have to say, thank you for reading
