Meade has babies! *Pics* on pg 3

One died, (sorry he is in the pics just to warn you) his intestines werent fully absorbed and he was a lot smaller than the others. But we have 5 so far! She has moved the entire nest over a foot, leaving the egg shells in the old nest. She wouldnt let us get the dead baby out right away, but after we coaxed her to give him over she actually let us hold the other babies without a fight and then tucked them back under herself when I gave them back! I always forget that momma hatched babies are smaller than incubated ones!

I'm glowing, youd think I just had a baby or something

They are too precious, and they are just a tish lighter than rouen coloring due to Sax's lighter genes. VERY sweet and shes so good to let us hold them. She puffs up and hisses a little but doesnt even try to peck us when we grab a baby. I hope to gain her trust by only holding them a little bit, always in her line of vision, and giving them right back to her.

Great plan. That will get the babies used to be handled and not stress mom. The more relaxed she is around you, the more relaxed the ducklings will be.

I know how you feel. I hatched 2 ducklings (well 3, but one died at a couple of days). I was a WRECK each time!!!

Shes a proud first-time Momma for sure! Sax is stuck outside, but he knows something is up! I told him he has cute babies but he just wanted me to feed him

hahah my drakes have been the same xD

when Templeton hatched I told Mojo(his daddy) that he had a first baby and he just looked at me like "SOoooo, whens dinner?"

I have NO idea what he'll do if/when the mallard egg Stencil is brooding hatches, he likes to sleep with her in the nest box, now THAT is addorible
