ARGH! I was able to candle ALL of the eggs over the weekend, and there are only 6 for sures and a possible 7th alive out of the 17 left. AND they havent even pipped yet! WEll maybe NOW they have, but as of SUnday afternoon there were lil beaks moving in the air cells but no pips on any of the eggs. Is it taking longer because she didnt sit devotedly for the first few days?

As of Monday night at 6:30 p.m. CST there are pips, but no one was out yet this morning... She's doing this on purpose just to aggravate me! The lil duckies have their own lil water dish next to momma's big one and all is ready for their arrival if they'd just COME OUT already! From pip to hatch, when Momma is doing things herself, how long does it take!? Do I still have 3 more days ahead of me or is there a light at the end of this tunnel?

I know how you feel LOL

I had two hens atart sitting at around the same time, Akai, one of my insane constantly broody Indian runners started sitting a nest of 5 mallard eggs last month, and about 4, 5 days ago, I guess she got bored, and Stencil her equally insane,Fawn and white sister Stencil took over, theres one egg left, I candled it the other day and it looked completely full, so space inside, it doesn't stink and she has gotten rather protective, even fluffing up, and hissing at ME, wich she'd never done before,

one of my mallards, mouse is on her second brood, she's sitting on 4 of Sage's eggs, and one of her own, the runners had been co-sharing their egg for atleast 3 weeks now, Mouse is the same, about 3 weeks, so the babies should hatched within days of one another, I'm THINKING this week, but I'm getting impatient!

what kinda duck is your momma/the babies?

Hard to wait, isn't it? We just had our first duck egg in our incubator pip an hour or so ago. I know we need to be patient, but I want it to zip and hatch right now! We can hardly wait to see our first new baby duckling!

Good luck with your remaining fertile eggs. I hope all of them hatch. We set three, but only two were fertile, and now at least one has pipped. If the other one has, it's not visible on the window side of the incubator.

Looking forward to hearing about your new ducklings when they make their appearance.

Meade is a Rouen. SHe's never been "freindly" but she will let me get within 2 feet of her before fluffing up and hissing. I can only candle is I am lucky enough to find her off the nest.

don't they both look like mallards as babies??

I've never seen a saxony, either way, I bet they'll be CUTE!

mouse is a phycho broody! LOL, she is nesting in an old cubby with the shelves taken out, and a board laid against it to make the wall with a little space just big enough for her to get in and out, she fluffs and hisses and trys to bite when I check on her lLOL

No, our Saxony was yellow as a baby... so I am wondering what kind of down the babies will have since Meade did look like a mallard as a baby...buff colored mallard pattern perhaps?
