an they love them.

Has anyone ever tried farming their own? We've been considering this since our girls LOVE the dried ones but we could go broke buying those things around here!
I use worm food some people calls it cricket food ,you can buy it at a farm an garden store .Put it in a trash can ,it will be 50 lbs so it depends on how many you need .I rasie them for fishing an sales so I just dump the bag ,moisten just a bit an cut a tiny hole in top (for the beetles to get in) wont be long an you will have all you need. Here is another thought ,take some shelled corn or corn on the cob an wet it an walla all the corn maggots u can use.Good fish bait also just bigger than meal worms ,

Here is the article from the learning center. https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/how-to-raise-mealworms

It is SUPER easy. I just buy bulk wheat bran from the health foods grocery store and feed them the romaine, carrots and apples that I already regularly have on hand for the dogs and chickens. They awill eat lots of different plant matter. I raise them in a clear plastic crafting bin with three drawers.

I've been throwing compost (Chicken poop, straw, wood chips, eggshells, corn husks) in a steel drum. My feed went bad,got moldy and meal worms so I threw it into the steel drum. Now I have a ton of meal worms and the hens love them. Is is safe to feed them meal worms raised in a drum of poop, hay, and rotted stuff?
