Mealworm farming

Where does everyone buy their mealworms? I finally found some at Petco, feed stores didn't have, but they are .$4.50 for 100 and it barely looks 100 in there. I bought 2 containers. I need more. They're tiny too.

I saw you can buy online at Amazon or Ebay but where is the best deal with shipping?

My first shipment of 5000 mealworms from Rainbow Mealworms a month ago was great. Nice live worms.
My second shipment of 10,000 worms delivered 2 days ago was awful.
There were many exoskeletons and black dead worms peppered throughout.
The difference in the two shipments of worms really was surprising.

I sent them an email with pics and hope to hear from them next Tuesday. If they make good on this last batch, I can recommend them, otherwise, no.

Crazy Huhn, a member on here, sells them. Try him.

We bought ours at rainbow farms. Very fast shipping. Members are a great opportunity to support the BYC community though :)

I am looking forward to helping fellow BYC members start up their meal farms when mine is established. Still haven't told the wife that some are on the way. ;)

I recommend you clue your wife in soon, especially if she retrieves the mail.

Day before yesterday, I had a neighbor in and we were discussing the wild darkling beetles that currently have been bombarding us in their mating flights . I took the opportunity to show her what my captive domesticated beetles looked like. Yeah, her eyes bugged out like that!

She calmed right down as soon as I assured her these don't fly, and then I showed her the other stages of my darkling beetles. I haven't had anyone continue to be freaked out by these insects after I teach them a little bit about them.
