So far so good--I think being in the garage and elevated helped a lot. They're definitely really feeling the cold, though.

I'm thinking about putting a couple of trays of horse poo crosswise in the stack to provide warmth as they compost and throwing one of those dollar store tablecloths over (under a decent blanket) to hold the heat in...?

they all creep me out a lil too, i wear gloves and its not as bad. i upgraded to bigger bins and have to finish up tonight, ugh creepers again hehe! will take pics as i am cleaning and moving tho.

LOL...wasn't the creep factor; they don't bother me at all that way. It was that I didn't think it would MOVE like that! Kinda like picking up an apple and the whole other side is crawling with worms!

It amuses me that my 5 year old granddaughter comes down and she plays with the worms MORE than the chicks

I have to stop her from playing in the buckets of frass

Hehehee kids and bugs, either they squeal and run, or they try to keep em all as pets! She may never grow out of it, i didn't! My 3 "ewwws" are roaches, spiders and bees. I think mealie beetles remind me too much of a roach

but i don't mind the pupa and wee wormies at all usually. What set me off the worst, i was putting in new carrot, and had a way too big baggy sweatshirt on (DH's) and they got in and on the sleeve. they were up in the shirt

all over me by time i felt it!
Good thing it was late at night, no one was up, i was dancing and stripping in the kitchen

Makes me feel a lot better, just got s*&% on by a turkey. He was trying out a new roosting place and got his wing stuck on a wire; I had to get under him to get his wing untangled and he wasn't feeling too good about it poor guy. Next thing i knew I had this warm stream down my face, my neck and my sleeve....lovely!

By the way, I have finally got 100 or so mealworms 3 days ago so am making a modest start. I have them down in the basement next to my FF bucket and my ACV which is going great! Is it OK to keep them in the dark all the time? They are enjoying their apple...
