Mealworm Shortage

I've got a friend who just today received an order of mealworms that she won on eBay. Whoda thunk? Anyhow, I'm sending her the URL to this thread. She bought them for a little lizard they have. Thanks, guys!

Emily - Yikes! i didn't realize that superworms were different than large mealworms. That sounds way too complicated for me. More than three easy steps, and i'm lost. i think i will wait until the medium mealworms arrive and go the easy route.

The shortage is ending, my supplier has actually never run out, but they got new wheat "oat" feed for all of them, they wouldnt eat and they wouldnt reproduce! Lets hope they start doing both!

i hope this shortage ends soon, too. i bought a bunch of crickets for my kids to fill in. These came from Flukers and were super zippy. Tried dumping some out in the pen and was immediately covered in crickets - crawling up my arms, hopping on my legs, sneaking down my blouse. Ack!

i think a lot of them got away because our bushes were chirping up a storm last night. Very much prefer the slow moving worms!

i just did a search rather than posting and found this thread. Yes, there seems to be a nationwide shortage on mealworms, especially the giants. i have looked online everywhere. Today i finally ended up ordering some crickets and superworms from Flukers. Although i'm personally terrified of those superworms.

i did find a couple of folks on ebay selling the medium mealworms. So may get a thousand of those.

Most of the sites are stating we should have giants again in August. Although now may be a good time to look into raising them myself. How hard could it be?
I just ordered my first batch of live mealworms (ebay) and I'm going to be raising them myself now.

i have been breeding them it is very easy i just started. i have 7 chickens that love them and a leapord gecko so i need them for my gecko.
